Zac Efron got dropped by a vicious punch to the face in the early hours of March 23 in L.A.’s Skid Row area of town. But what was he doing over there in the first place?
Zac Efron, 26, is on the mend after being violently punched in the mouth by a transient homeless man in L.A.’s notorious Skid Row area, just a little after 12 a.m. Cops in the vicinity saw the two men in a scuffle and had to break it up.
Zac Efron: Actor Gets Punched In The Face In L.A.
Zac was mysteriously strolling in a bad part of downtown L.A. called Skid Row just after midnight Sunday. Sadly, he ended up on the wrong side of a sketchy homeless man’s fists as a result, L.A. law enforcement sources told TMZ.
Cops that were on patrol under the Harbor Freeway saw Zac and a man the actor identified as his bodyguard. Cops then witnessed Zac and his “bodyguard” in a full-blown melee with at least 3 other people.
“It was the hardest I’ve ever been hit in my life,” Zac said.
After breaking up the fight, cops questioned the High School Musical actor, and learned that he and his “bodyguard” had run out of gas and were sitting in the car. Zac then stated that while waiting for a tow truck they threw a bottle out the window — he never said what was in the bottle — and it smashed on the pavement near a group of homeless men.
Naturally, the homeless men became upset at having a bottle shatter right near them, and they confronted Zac and the bodyguard. The 17 Again actor says 2 of the transients attacked the bodyguard, and when Zac exited the car to help he got smashed in the mouth!
Zac Efron Gets Into Fight With Homeless Men In L.A. On Skid Row
Law enforcement told TMZ that no one was arrested because they viewed the confrontation as “mutual combat.”
According to California state law, “mutual combat” occurs when person “A” gives person “B” a chance to stop fighting. If person “B” does not stop and continues to fight — person “A” then has a right to defend themselves.
No official statement has been released from any party involved revealing why Zac was on that side of town. The area where this occurred is a notorious L.A. rough spot where cops are on high alert for drug deals and gangs.
Zac had previously done two stints in rehab for a reported drug addiction in 2013, according to the Huffington Post.
Another source had also confirmed to People magazine that the actor completed the treatments — telling the magazine at the time that Efron “is doing great,” and “he’s taking care of himself and it shows.”
Similarly, noted ex-basketball star Lamar Odom, who’s been said to have drug problems of his own in the past, had been previously spotted around the same side of town as Zac. HollywoodLife.com had learned that Lamar had an apartment near Skid Row, and his family was concerned that he hangs around that area.
HollywoodLife.com spoke to an insider close to Lamar who says that Lamar has “a lot of friends” in Skid Row, which is why he’s always spotted down there.
What do you think HollywoodLifers? Was Zac up to no good on the wrong side of town or was he just in the wrong place at the wrong time?
