The internet blew up on March 24 when a report claimed that the former Nets basketball player had been found dead, stuffed in a trash bag and buried in a shallow grave. So what REALLY happened? Was Quinton brutally murdered, or is this just another hoax?
Everyone who follows the NBA was given a monstrous, saddening shock on March 24 when it was reported that Quinton Ross, who played for the New Jersey Nets, Memphis Grizzlies, and Los Angeles Clippers, had been murdered and buried on the outskirts of New York City.
Quinton Ross: Ex-NBA Player Becomes Death Hoax Victim
But as it turns out, Quinton was just the most recent star to fall victim to faulty reporting and the rumble of social media. It was just another death hoax — the NBA star is very much alive.
The confusion began when the New York Post reported that Quinton’s body had been found stuffed into a trash bag and buried in a shallow grave in the Far Rockaways in New York City. But a short time after the initial report was published, the newspaper tweeted:
UPDATE: Initial reports that body found in the Rockaways is former Nets basketball player Quinton Ross are incorrect http://t.co/B0bYrilviz
— New York Post (@nypost) March 24, 2014
So what the hell happened, you ask? It seems that the victim who was found in the grave was also named Quinton Ross. (Which means someone really was found stuffed into a trash bag, so that’s equally disturbing.) Before the Post was able to update their story, it was picked up by a few other sites, as well as social media users, and that was all she wrote.
So all you NBA fans out there, take a deep breath! Quinton’s heart is still dribbling.
