Judge Joe Brown had the tables turned on him on March 24, when he flipped out on another judge while representing a client in a Memphis, Tenn. juvenile court. Now, HollywoodLife.com has the audio of the shocking mid-hearing outburst that landed Judge Joe in the Shelby County Jail for five days.
March 24 wasn’t a good day for Judge Joe Brown, 66, who is clearly used to being in control in the courtroom. Judge Joe went head to head with Magistrate Harold Horne in juvenile court, and when the TV judge crossed the line and “incited a near riot” in the middle of the courtroom, he was arrested and sentenced to five days in jail. Listen to the crazy argument right here!
Judge Joe Brown’s Courtroom Outrage — Listen
Judge Joe showed up to a Memphis, Tenn. court to represent a client in a child-support case on March 24, but was asked to leave after the judge on the bench, Magistrate Harold Horne, said the case was not on the afternoon docket. That’s when things got way out of hand and Judge Joe completely freaked out!
Judge Joe was sentenced to five days in jail after he became verbally abusive towards Magistrate Horne, “a real laid-back guy,” according to Juvenile Chief Magistrate Dan Michael, another judge who was present for the incident. “He all but had that courtroom in a riot,” Dan told the newspaper Commercial Appeal.
Judges and staff in the court “were all kind of floored” by Judge Joe’s behavior, Dan said, adding that the TV judge was held in contempt of court five times before authorities “were able to get him out of the courtroom.”
Judge Joe was taken into custody in the courtroom after his outburst, and later released on his own recognizance.
It remains to be seen whether he’ll have to serve the five-day prison sentence.
Judge Joe Brown Speaks Out Following Arrest
Judge Joe spoke out about his arrest after he was released from jail, saying, “This is politically motivated. [The woman I represented has] been going through this [custody case] for eight years. There was no date of birth, no names, no birth certificate. She doesn’t know who the devil they’re talking about.”
Judge Joe, who was a Shelby County Criminal Court judge from 1990-2000, left this position to focus on his nationally-syndicated TV show, which ran from 1998-2013. He is currently running for D.A. of Shelby County, but something tells us this may no go over so well anymore.
