Right off the bat in the March 24 episode, the mood in the ballroom changed, as the 12 couples found that not one, but two pairs would be eliminated in week two. See who went home below.
Co-hosts Erin Andrews and Tom Bergeron shocked the Dancing With The Stars cast just minutes into episode two of season 18. First, by telling them that two couples would be going home in the first elimination. Second, that the pairs would be dancing to the dance the celebs chose in their initial interviews — when they had no dancing experience! Read our full recap below and tell us, do you agree with the results? Warning: spoilers ahead!
‘Dancing With The Stars’ Elimination — 2 Couples Go Home
Drew Carey and Cheryl Burke were immediately told they were safe, but that they were to dance first. They danced the jive. “If entertainment was judo, you’d be a black belt,” head judge Len Goodman said. Bruno Tonioli said Drew “covered the mistakes beautifully.” Carrie Ann Inaba said he did “excellent” job. They got a 21.
Then, Billy Dee & Emma, Meryl & Max and Danica & Val were all announced as safe!
Danica McKellar danced a super sexy samba with Val Chmerkovskiy. “You’re like a gorgeous little jungle cat. Beautiful to look at but not quite tamed yet,” Bruno said. Carrie Ann called it sexy and elegant! Len said it was terrific and fantastic! They got a score of 24.
Billy Dee Williams danced the tango with Emma Slater after an emotional practice package. “I don’t want you to get discouraged. I thought you handled this choreography very well.. but we need a lot more content,” Carrie Ann said. Len encouraged him to have fun. They got a 15. Remember, he is 77!
Olympic ice dancer Meryl Davis danced the swing with Maks Chmerkovskiy. “That swing had wings. Fly on, girl, you are going to be here for a while,” Len said. Bruno commented on the level of difficulty. “The one thing I really appreciated in this routine is your athleticism. I think you really shined. You are truly a star,” Carrie Ann said. They got a 25!
Diana Nyad Eliminated On ‘Dancing With The Stars’ — First Star Sent Home
Next, Amy & Derek and Candice & Mark were announced as safe.
Unfortunately, the first elimination of the night was long distance swimmer Diana Nyad and pro Henry Byalikov. But they still got to dance their Cha Cha!
Full House star Candace Cameron Bure danced a sensual rumba with Mark Ballas. (Note: It wasn’t about “raunchy sex” as Candace said.) “I feel that it was a little too contemporary…You have so much potential,” Carrie Ann said. Len said her arms needed to be as expressive as her face. “Your emotional depth is totally in focus,” Bruno said. They got a 21.
Amy Purdy, the Olympic snowboarder with two prosthetic legs, danced an amazing swing with Derek Hough. “Amy, you’re amazing, well done,” Len said. “A knockout, really,” Bruno said. Carrie Ann raved, “well, well done.” They got a 24!
Next: Charlie & Sharna and James & Peta — both announced as safe!
James Maslow danced a shirtless salsa with rumored girlfriend Peta Murgatroyd. “James, you’ve come out of your shell and you’ve got the abs to prove it!” Bruno yelled. Carrie Ann simply said: “Dayum!” and then added him into the DWTS Sexy Hall of Fame! They got a 25!
Front-runner Charlie White danced the tango with pro Sharna Burgess. Carrie Ann said he was incredibly powerful as the “bad boy.” Len said he broke the hold and therefore broke the rules. “Charlie, don’t worry, I love you when you’re bad,” Bruno purred. They got a 25.
The Final Three — Which Couple Will Go Home?
Housewives of Atlanta star NeNe Leakes danced the jive with Tony Dovolani. “You’re so much fun to watch,” Len said. “You can shake it but you went wrong — it needs to be much, much sharper in the footwork, but great entertainment,” Bruno said. Carrie Ann said she looked more comfortable than week one. They got a 21.
Former NHL star Sean Avery danced the salsa with Karina Smirnoff. Bruno said he needed to ignite his hips. Carrie Ann said: “Your rhythm is for real!” Len said he was going to get a higher score this week than last week! They got a 21!
Last Dance Of The Night
Singer Cody Simpson danced a non-traditional tango (to a Chris Brown song!) with new pro Witney Carson. “I really hope you make it because I love the way you stylize things,” Carrie Ann said. Len said: “Anyone who can fit a moonwalk into a tango has my respect.” Bruno commented: “When you switch it on, you have this hypnotic quality, like Edward in Twilight. I can see you put a lot of work into this.” They got a 22!
At the end of the night, it was revealed that Sean & Karina were the second couple eliminated, which was really sad. I think Billy Dee should have been sent home.
Remember that the celebs are switching partners in two weeks so be sure to vote on who you want to see together!
