Paul Walker’s mom, Cheryl Walker, is desperately fighting for custody of his teenage daughter, Meadow. Now, a new report claims that Paul had already asked his mother to be Meadow’s legal guardian before he died. But why? Details here.
It’s been almost four months since Paul Walker‘s tragic death, and unfortunately his daughter Meadow remains at the center of a vicious custody battle.
Paul Walker Asked His Mom To Raise His Daughter
Fast & Furious actor Paul Walker died in a fiery car accident on November 30 in Southern California. Ever since, his mother Cheryl Walker has been fighting for custody of his 15-year-old daughter, Meadow.
Rebecca Soteros, Paul’s high school sweetheart and Meadow’s mother, apparently suffers from a major drinking problem that has made her an incompetent parent.
On Wednesday, March 19, Cheryl finally filed a legal petition to become Meadow’s primary guardian, according to TMZ. However, sources close to Paul’s family have now revealed that the actor begged his mom to become Meadow’s full time guardian just hours before his fatal car accident. Meadow has reportedly been living with Cheryl since Paul’s death in November 2013.
According to the sources, Paul felt that he was far too busy to care for Meadow on his own and wanted to make sure she had a proper guardian around at all times. He had tried hiring a nanny, but none of the ones he employed worked out. Instead, Paul gave up his search to find a nanny and on the morning of November 30 he asked his mom, Cheryl, to quit her full time job as a nurse and instead care for his daughter. When Cheryl agreed, Paul called multiple other family members to let them know about his decision.
Sadly, Paul died later that afternoon before he could properly sign over legal guardianship of Meadow to his mom.
Meadow Asked To Live With Paul In 2011
Rebecca had full custody of Meadow at her home in Hawaii up until 2011, when Meadow reportedly called Paul and begged him to let her move to Los Angeles and live with him. Paul was more than happy to take custody of his daughter, especially because he was well aware of Rebecca’s terrible drinking problem.
Rebecca’s drinking has definitely not gone unnoticed, especially since she has a record of DUI’s. One of them is as recent as August 2013, just three months before Paul’s desk.
Hopefully the court appoints Paul’s mom Cheryl sole guardianship so that Meadow has someone she can rely on. We can’t imagine how difficult it’s been for Meadow to deal with her father’s death these past few months, especially while worrying about who will be the one to raise her now that he’s gone.
