‘Glee’ 2009 Flashback Episode — How It All Started: Series Finale Pt. 1 – Hollywood Life

‘Glee’: 10 Things We Learned From The 2009 Flashback Episode

The first half of the two-hour series finale of 'Glee' took us back to 2009, when it all began. Not only did we see where the New Directions were before they hit the auditorium stage, but we also saw some familiar faces we have missed so much. We started off from the moment when Mr. Schuester (Matt Morrison) came home to tell his wife -- yes, Terri (Jessalyn Gilsi) returned -- that he took over the Glee club. And from there, we headed right back to where it all started, and well, it was everything.

‘Glee’ 2009 Flashback Teaches Us How It All Started

Here’s the epic things we learned in the flashback episode:

1. Kurt (Chris Colfer) actually contemplated suicide he was so depressed before suicide — but luckily, Emma (Jayma Mays) informed his dad, who demanded he join a group.

2. Kurt and Rachel (Lea Michele) met because they both had no friends, and he needed a new club (she was in every one). So, their first duet together was “Popular” from Wicked. Of course, we all know, this was foreshadowing since they’d later sing “For Good,” which means they 100 percent Elphaba and Glinda.

3. Rachel started competing with Mercedes (Amber Riley) after visiting her church and seeing her nail “I’m His Child.” Rachel also told her she should get the role as Sandy in Grease, because she would never take the role of “black Dorothy from The Wiz.”

4. Puck (Mark Salling) and a not-so-nice Karofsky (Max Adler) is the first to slushie Rachel — and Will sees it go down. With that, Mercedes’ mom cheers her up after Rachel gets the solo, saying that maybe Rachel needs it more right now, and that she can see them being friends in the future.

5. Tina (Jenna Ushkowitz) and Artie (Kevin McHale) auditioned on a dare by their bullying friends. He performed a sick “Pony” by Genuine while she took on an angry version of “I Kissed A Girl,” and well they both rocked. Naturally.

6. Sue (Jane Lynch) and Will were actually “best friends” before the glee club, at least in her mind. Unfortunately, she gives him an ultimatum: glee club or her. Luckily, he picks the kids.

7. Rachel actually tried to convince Terri that Will shouldn’t leave to become an accountant. Yes, Rachel heads to Sheets-N-Things and has a run in with her and with Howard Bamboo (Kent Avenido). He even makes a joke about wanting a future as an a capella future! Nice touch, Ryan.

8. Blaine and Kurt almost met in 2009 — he handed Mercedes a coffee and ended up walking right by Kurt! If only!

9. It was Finn (Cory Monteith)’s idea to perform “Don’t Stop Believin’.”

10. Rachel ended up saving Finn’s spot in the Glee club. After he quit the first time, the group was worried he’d ditch them again — but instead, she sat with them and reminded them that he was different just like them. He rescued Artie; he doesn’t make fun of Mercedes; he let Kurt take off his Marc Jacobs jacket before being thrown in the dumpster.

‘Glee’ Series Finale: ‘Dreams Come True’ — Season 6 Episode 13 Recap

The episode ended in the best way possible. Just when Will thought he’d have to leave the glee club to become an accountant, he heard what he needed — the original six of them performing “Don’t Stop Believin'” in the auditorium. And looking from the outskirts was Sue, Santana (Naya Rivera) and Quinn (Dianna Agron). Even Puck (Mark Salling) peeked in.

Hope you had your tissues ready.
