On the March 18 episode of ‘The Little Couple,’ Bill is excited to finally bring newly adopted Zoey home from India. Unfortunately, Jen has to deliver the heartbreaking news of her Stage 3 cancer diagnosis to the family.
Now that the whole family is home from India, Dr. Jennifer Arnold is forced to reveal that she has been diagnosed with stage 3 uterine cancer.
Jen Reveals Her Cancer Diagnosis
The March 18 episode of The Little Couple starts out on an exciting note when Bill Klein is finally able to bring his adorable newly adopted daughter Zoey home to Dr. Jennifer Arnold. Bill is still worried about the fact that Zoey has not warmed up to him just yet, but thankfully he has their nanny Kate with him to help with the trip home. We’re sure Zoey is just having trouble adjusting to all of these new people, especially after getting accustomed to the people who cared for her in her foster home.
Bill admits during the trip home that he’s really worried about his wife Jennifer, and he’s just as anxious as we are to get back and find out how she is doing. On the March 11 episode, Jen was forced to leave India early after experiencing some scary irregular bleeding, so everyone is eager to know that she is doing well at home. Unfortunately, Bill has no idea that he is coming home to terrible news from Jen about her health.
“While Bill was finishing up the adoption process with Zoey in India, I ended up going through multiple tests, to find out why I’d been bleeding so badly in India, and it turns out that I have a form of cancer called gestational trophoblastic neoplasm stage 3, which means that I had a rapidly growing tumor in my uterus,” Jen explains to viewers while her supportive husband Bill stays right by her side. Jen continues to let us know that doctors also found three nodules in her lungs, meaning the cancer had already started to spread. We can’t even begin to imagine how scary this was for Jen, especially since she was all by herself while her family was India. Bill’s heartbreaking reaction really tugged at the heart strings when he admits that his “heart sank” after hearing that Jen had cancer.
“It scares the hell out of you,” Bill shares. Even though they received some really scary news, it’s good to see that Bill and Jen have each other to rely on during this difficult time.
Despite dealing with her illness, Jen is still very excited that Zoey is home and even says that she doesn’t want her cancer to “overshadow” Zoey’s adoption. “That’s what’s getting me through this cancer diagnosis, is getting Zoey home and acclimated and continuing to watch Will grow,” Jen shares. What an incredible and strong woman Jen is. Truly inspiring!
As expected, Jen doesn’t let her chemotherapy slow her down. During Zoey’s first few weeks in her new home, the couple spent some necessary time alone without cameras so that they could bond as a family and letting Zoey and Will get used to one another. During this bonding time, Jen also had to spend one night a week in the hospital for her chemotherapy. Once those six weeks passed, Jen admits that they are in a “much better” place.
Forever the optimist, Jen claims that Bill has been her support system through her diagnosis. “Bill is definitely amazing through all this, I can’t imagine being in his shoes, just having come home from India, taking care of me and two kids and the house and all the transition and just his business too, and oh my gosh, he’s such a good guy, and he’ll never let it show.”
Dr. Dias – Arrastia, the Gynecologic Oncologist who treated Jen explained the difficulties surrounding her treatment. “Chemotherapy is dosed by a formula that considers the weight and the height, but in her case the organs are those of an adult even though her height is that of a child, that made her treatments a little more complicated, a little more of a challenge.”
After revealing that she had lost all of her hair, Jen decided to shop for a wig. After having fun trying on multiple styles and colors, Jen decided to stick with her signature short blonde bob do. Looking great and feeling comfortable, Jen and Bill headed out for a much deserved dinner date.
‘The Little Couple’ Celebrates First Christmas Together
Just a day after a round of chemo, Jen and the family get the house ready for christmas, decorating not one but TWO trees. In celebration of their first christmas as a family, Jen thought a traditional christmas card picture was in order!
“This is the year we’ve brought the kids home from their respective countries so I thought it would be very special to have them wear outfits that are traditional from their cultures,” Jen shares. What a great idea!
Like every family, taking a christmas card is an ordeal — especially with two toddlers! ‘
“To get two kids to look at you and sit still in front of the christmas tree and get a picture was a lot harder then I thought,” Jen shares after trying her best to get both kids to look at her during the shoot. Thankfully, the family ended up with some adorable pics!
We are amazed at this family’s strength. Both Jen and Bill have remained so positive, and have really been an inspiration. Thankfully Jen revealed in Feb. 2014 that her cancer is in remission!
