The wealthy arts and fashion patron who was a friend to former first lady Jacqueline Kennedy and political benefactor to John Edwards passed away, due to natural causes.
Rachel ‘Bunny’ Mellon, known for her exquisite taste in fashion and decorating, passed away on March 17 at the age of 103 in Virginia, on her 4,000-acre estate, Oak Spring Farms, according to the NY Post. In the past, Mellon entertained royalty, (including Queen Elizabeth and Prince Charles), stars, and politicians. Her death was confirmed by her grandson Thomas Lloyd and her personal attorney Alexander Forger. So sad.
Rachel ‘Bunny’ Mellon Dead:
Mellon’s life was filled with a passion for the arts, fashion, horses, rare books, and gardens. In 1932 she married Stacy Barcroft Lloyd Jr., a businessman and horse breeder. The couple divorced and she married her ex-husband’s friend, Paul Mellon. At the time, Paul was reportedly the world’s richest man. Mellon had a fine eye for fashion, and her wardrobe was crafted by famed Spanish designer Cristóbal Balenciaga until he retired, and French designer Hubert de Givenchy took over. She also had a rare art collection. She practiced pilates well into her later years, until she neared 100, which she learned from Joseph Pilates in the 1950s.
Rachel ‘Bunny’ Mellon & John Edwards — Donated Hundreds Of Thousands Of Dollars To His Campaign:
Despite living a very quiet life, she found herself in the spotlight in 2011 when John Edwards was indicted for allegedly using campaign money to hide mistress Rielle Hunter and their child during Edwards’ presidential bid. $750,000 of the funds in question came from Mellon, however, she was not accused of breaking any laws.
Our thoughts are with her loved ones at this time.
