Kilah Davenport, 4, has died due to complications relating to the massive brain damage she sustained as a result of child abuse from her violent stepfather in May 2012. Kilah was just three weeks away from celebrating her fifth birthday. Such a tragedy.
Kilah Davenport was a beautiful little girl who was full of life until the day her stepfather, Joshua Houser, punished her for soiling herself by ramming her head into a wall while her mom, Kirbi Davenport, was at work.
Paralyzed Toddler Dies From Abuse
Little Kilah Davenport was about to celebrate her fifth birthday when she suffered complications from brain damage caused by her stepfather, Joshua Houser, inside of their North Carolina home.
“I write this page with a heavy heart… Kilah Davenport passed away today at 6:08pm, 03/12/2014,” read Kilah’s official website.
In May 2012, Joshua allegedly picked Kilah up and slammed her head into a wall as punishment after she had an accident and went to the bathroom in her pants. Her mother, Kirbi Davenport, was at work at the time of the incident. Kilah became instantly unconscious, and Joshua later told police that she was hurt while falling in a different room than him. He also told police that the hole in the wall, presumably from Kilah’s tiny head, was actually from him punching the wall in frustration when the 911 operator failed to get their address right.
Doctors originally told Kirbi and the rest of Kilah’s family that she would not survive the injury because she had suffered damage to over 90% of her brain. Although Kilah did not stay in the vegetative state doctors predicted, when she woke up she was not able to speak or walk and therefore remained in a wheelchair.
After Joshua continuously denied he was at fault for Kilah’s injuries, he was found guilty of felonious assault by a trial jury and was sentenced to 8-10 years in prison . The trial only lasted nine days, and the jury only deliberated for four hours. There is no word on whether or not Joshua will face additional charges now that Kilah has died from the injury.
Kilah’s Mom Forgives Joshua For His Actions
After Joshua was found guilty and sentenced in February 2014 for destroying his little stepdaughter Kilah’s life, her mom, Kirby, told the press that even though he had not apologized for his actions, that she forgives him.
“I have no ill feelings towards Josh,” she told WBTV. “I forgive him for what he’s done even though he won’t say that he’s sorry – or that he did it.”
Kirbi felt positive that one day, she would see little Kilah walk, talk and go to prom.
“She’s gonna walk, she gonna go to prom, she’s gonna get married, she’s gonna have kids, she’s gonna be Kilah again. She’s gonna be out dancing and that’s my main focus.”
Sadly, that day will never come now that Kilah has passed on.
