Jerry Sandusky is currently serving what could be up to 60 years in prison for sexually abusing Penn State University students while he was employed as assistant football coach. Now, his wife Dottie reveals that she still believes he is innocent, and that he is struggling over missing his grandkids in prison.
Dottie Sandusky claims that her husband Jerry is innocent, and she is giving the world some details about what his life is like behind bars without his family.
Jerry Sandusky Misses his Family
Jerry Sandusky, 70, will probably die in prison while serving a sentence of up to 60 years after being found guilty on 45 counts of sexual abuse. Dottie Sandusky, his wife of over 37 years, recently spoke out in her first interview since her husband was convicted in June 2012. Dottie maintains her belief that Jerry is innocent, and has opened up about what his life is like behind bars.
One of Jerry’s biggest struggles in prison? Being removed from his family.
“A friend had written to him and asked him what he missed — what did he take most for granted — and he said family meals, fun time with the grandkids playing ball, (and) doing special things with friends,” Dottie shared with the Today Show‘s Matt Lauer. It’s the only time during her interview that she breaks down in tears on camera.
Jerry Spends 23 Hours In A Cell
Dottie also shared what it’s like to visit her husband at the maximum security prison in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania.
“Most of the guards, he says, are nice to him,’’ Dottie shared. “I guess they don’t understand Jerry’s a happy person, and he smiles, and he tries to make people laugh. He said, ‘I’m in the situation I’m in, and I’m gonna make the best I can out of it.’’’
Thankfully, it sounds like Dottie tries her best to make the most of it and even cracks jokes with her husband about how he spends time in the prison’s library sometimes.
“He is allowed to go to the law library once a week, which is for two hours. He has access to a computer that he can look up cases, different cases, and…I kid him and say, ‘Well, maybe you’re gonna become a lawyer.’’’
