Did you miss out on the brief but maddening phenomenon that was Flappy Bird? Well you’re in luck, because Flappy creator Dong Nguyen is prepped to attack the innocent public with another sure-to-be addicting game called Kitty Jetpack.
Flappy Bird Creator: Kitty Jetpack Will Be His Next Game
Dong, 28, became the biggest tech guy in Vietnam’s history when his app randomly exploded in February 2014, but the media frenzy and threats from angry parents that followed led him to throw his hands in the air, delete the app, and quit.
However, as of March 12, it appears that Dong has changed his mind. Rolling Stone visited the mysterious phenomenon in Vietnam, and Dong — who was making about $50,000 a day from the app — revealed that he is working on not one but three new apps, and he’s even considering relaunching Flappy Bird with a warning attached: “Please take a break.”
The most promising of these games is Kitty Jetpack, another vertical flying game that will feature a KITTY CAT flying a JETPACK. Basically it’s Flappy Bird but with a cat instead of a bird, and a jetpack instead of wings. Get ready to give up your social life, folks!
Flappy Bird Creator — Victim Of Online Suicide Hoax
Although he made a boatload of money, it’s understandable why Dong needed a brief respite from Flappy-mania. After his mysterious, Feb. 8 Twitter proclamation that he was deleting the game was retweeted hundreds of thousands of times, rumors about the reasoning behind it got out of control.
“I am sorry ‘Flappy Bird’ users, 22 hours from now, I will take ‘Flappy Bird’ down,” he wrote. “I cannot take this anymore.”
Two days later, a fake suicide report emerged, throwing the Internet into a frenzy. The report was widely circulated, and it must have been a major headache for poor Dong, who created Flappy over a long weekend when he was bored.
