Mom Charged With 3 Counts of Child Endangerment
A New Hampshire mom has been charged with three counts of child endangerment and one count of lying to a police officer after her child walked to a police station and asked for a ride to school. Katarina Short, 26, allegedly left her three small children — ages 5, 4, and 1 — home alone for over two hours.
The oldest child reportedly dressed himself and his siblings in winter coats and boots before taking them on a walk to the Farmington Police Station at around 7:30am to ask for a ride to school. Even though the weather showed that it was around zero degrees during their early morning walk, all three children were found in good health after a medical evaluation by paramedics.
Katarina Lied To Police About Babysitter
After police located Katarina and took her into custody, the mother of three lied to police about leaving the kids alone. Katarina reportedly told police that she had called a babysitter to watch the kids while she ran to a Wal-Mart to go food shopping, but the police later found that to not be true.
Later Katarina was ultimately released on a $4,000 personal recognizance bail.
Her three children have been placed into foster care until Katarina’s next hearing, which will be March 18.
