Say it ain’t so! Andrew Garfield is reportedly the reason why Batkid did not make an appearance at the 2014 Oscars. ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’ actor didn’t like his lines and bailed at the last minute. However, HollywoodLife.com has the facts.
Could Andrew Garfield not be as Amazing as we all thought after all? The actor was reportedly too cool for school to follow a script and help induct Batkid as an official hero at the Academy Awards, but HollywoodLife.com has got the truth behind the drama!
Andrew Garfield Snubs Batkid & The Oscars
Miles Scott warmed America’s hearts when the Make-A-Wish Foundation worked with the city of San Francisco and let him be a superhero for a day. Batkid, to be exact! After saving San Francisco-turned-Gotham, The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences worked with Make-A-Wish to have him appear at the Oscars for a special “induction” by another superhero.
The 5-year-old was set to be brought on stage by The Amazing Spider-Man 2 actor Andrew Garfield following a montage of movie superheroes, where Andrew was going to officially appoint him Batkid. As you may have noticed, that didn’t happen.
While reports claim that Andrew did not like the lines written for him for the segment and instead tried to improv, which ultimately led him to throwing a tantrum and walking off, that simply is not true.
Andrew’s publicist Rupert Fowler told HollywoodLife.com: “In full collaboration with the Academy and the show writer, Andrew prepared a segment for the Oscars to honor Miles Scott as the true hero that he is. As some point overnight on Saturday /Sunday morning, it was decided by those running the show that the segment didn’t work in the ceremony. They decided to pull it – Andrew and Miles were equally upset. The producers arranged for Miles and his family to visit Disneyland on Monday and Andrew drove down to visit them and to bring Miles a personal gift. Andrew did the right thing for Batkid and anyone saying otherwise is flat out lying.”
Batkid’s Family Upset After Oscar Snub
Miles’ family traveled to Los Angeles from Northern California for the big awards show, and Miles even had a tiny tuxedo made just for him. When the segment was pulled from the ceremony by producers, Miles’ mother was left baffled.
“I don’t know if they ran out of time, or if there was something about the segment they didn’t like,” Natalie Scott, Batkid’s mom, said in an interview. “It got pulled so quickly that we didn’t have a lot of insight into what was going on.”
However, after the segment was pulled, the Oscar producers treated Miles and his family to a day at Disneyland to make up for their troubles.
