The Duggar family were devastated when their mom, Michelle Duggar, suffered a miscarriage while carrying her 20th child. Now, three of the Duggar children are opening up about the family tragedy in their new book, ‘Growing Up Duggar.’
When Michelle Duggar announced she was pregnant with her 20th child, the family was delighted. Unfortunately, tragedy struck when Michelle lost the baby through miscarriage.
Duggar Family Discuss Upsetting Miscarriage
Jana, Jill, Jessa, and Jinger Duggar are opening up about their mom Michelle Duggar‘s tragic miscarriage and how it affected their family. In their new book “Growing Up Duggar,” the girls share the painful struggle and it’s clear that the girls are being strong not only for each other, but their entire family.
The girls reveal how they were told about the miscarriage, which was as soon as Michelle and her husband Jim Bob Duggar, got home from the ultrasound appointment where the doctor informed them that there was no heartbeat.
“Mama smiled a sweet smile and said, as tears welled up in her eyes, ‘We had the ultrasound … and there was no heartbeat,’” the 19 Kids & Counting stars remember their mom telling them. “’Our baby has died.’”
Michelle Gave Birth To A Stillborn
A few days after receiving the devastating news, the Duggar girls recall Michelle giving birth to a stillborn baby girl. Michelle later named the baby Jubilee, keeping in line with the “J” name trend her other daughters have. Michelle’s daughters, who really wanted a little sister to even out the boy/girl ratio in the family, were able to describe the stillborn baby in their book.
“She had beautiful blue eyes,” the girls shared. “And a very cute little Duggar nose. She looked perfect in every way.”
However, the family have definitely remained strong and even turned the tragedy into something positive that inspires them every day.
“In the months since, we have seen how God used Jubilee’s short life and our big family’s love-filled reaction to her death to remind people of the true value of life, born and unborn,” the girls share in the book. “The experience encouraged us to love each other even more, underscored our belief in the value of each life, and challenged us to take every opportunity to invest ourselves in each other, realizing we may not have tomorrow.”
