‘The Little Couple’ stopped by ‘Katie’ to discuss their exciting March 4 season premiere. Dr. Jennifer Arnold and Bill Klein also opened up about their decision to adopt children who have the same disability as them: skeletal dysplasia.
If you had a disability, would you adopt children who have the same disability? The Little Couple stars Dr. Jennifer Arnold and Bill Klein explain their decision to do just that.
The Little Couple — Both Adopted Children Have Skeletal Dysplasia
During their sit down interview with Katie Couric on her talk show, The Little Couple opened up about their decision to only adopt children born with skeletal dysplasia — the same disability they were born with.
If you did not know, skeletal dysplasia is the medical term for “dwarfism.” Children born with skeletal dysplasia see abnormal sizes in the size and shape of their legs, as well as the arms and skull.
“You know, I think it was just something that we felt we had an opportunity to raise a child who we understood first hand what it was like to be dealing with their disability,” Jen explained during the interview. “For us it was somewhat of a comfort zone, and it was also an opportunity to hopefully have a lot in common with our child.”
Will Loves Being A Big Brother
Jen also shared that during the new season of The Little Couple you’ll see their first adopted son, Will, quickly adapt to being a loving big brother.
“Will loves his sister. You’ll see, the first time he met her he kisses her foot and gives her his toys because he doesn’t understand why she’s crying,” Jen explained.
However, her husband Bill Klein reveals that he was not Zoey’s favorite person when he picked her up from the orphanage.
“Apparantly, I wasn’t number one like I was with Will right out of the gate. It was tough. Zoey started screaming when we got her into the bus,” Bill explained about the adoption process. “From that point until, oh, about Christmas or so? She had a tough time dealing with me. But, you know, we spoke with some professionals, we had a psychiatrist to help us with that process and to give us some techniques to encourage that bond. And it worked. These folks with PhD’s actually know what they’re talking about.”
Be sure to catch The Little Couple season premiere tonight on TLC at 10/9c!
