Yet again, 21-year-old Selena Gomez sported a bindi on March 4. She looked so pretty, but remember back in April 2013? There was a controversy about this accessory. Click to read more about what happened and tell us what you think!

Selena Gomez Wearing A Bindi … Again

Selena was first spotted wearing bindis while promoting her hit song Come and Get it, however she liked it so much that she started wearing it around casually. We last saw her wearing this accessory at a gas station in Tarzana, Calif. on Jan. 23.

In the Instagram post on March 4, she showed off a gold bindi and some gold jewelry. Selena looked super mysterious covering her mouth, and flashing her gorgeous long lashes at the camera.

We think Selena always looks beautiful, but what do you think?

Bindi Controversy

Although Selena looks like a goddess wearing a bindi, many people were offended. As we all know, bindis are specifically for the hindu religion, not for fashion purposes.

Back in April last year, The Universal Society of Hinduism statesman Rajan Zed told PerezHilton.com that Selena should apologize for wearing bindis. He said: “The Bindi on the forehead is an ancient tradition in Hinduism and has religious significance. It is also sometimes referred to as the third eye and the flame, and it is an auspicious religious and spiritual symbol… It is not meant to be thrown around loosely for seductive effects or as a fashion accessory aiming at mercantile greed. Selena should apologise and then she should get acquainted with the basics of world religions.”

She later spoke to Elvis Duran on the Z100 Morning Show on April 24 and told him her reason behind wearing this accessory during her Come and Get it performances. Selena said: “I think the song has that Hindu, tribal feel and I wanted to translate that. I’ve been learning about my chakra and bindis and the culture — it’s beautiful.”
