Oscars Nails — Manicures Inspired By Academy Awards Dresses
Alex did Amy Adams‘ nails for the Oscars, however, she was inspired by Cate and Lupita’s glamorous gowns on the red carpet. She told HollywoodLife.com how she achieved these nails!
“I was so inspired by the ethereal Armani Prive gown worn by Cate Blanchett. I knew I wanted to recreate the look for a glam nail look. I used Butter London nail foundation as a nude base coat. Next I used Sephora Hubba Hubble, a chunky silver iridescent glitter, as a clear base to replicate the shimmer appliqué of her gown. I did one thin coat to ensure the nude base coat was showing. Next I painted one thin layer of clear top coat to be used as adhesive for the rhinestones. I applied tiny rhinestones, 2 to 3 per nail, with tweezers for a creative three dimensional look. Lastly, I sealed the rhinestones with top coat in one thin layer.”
Lupita Nyong’o’s Mint Gown — Inspired Nails
Alex also described the steps she did for Lupita’s inspired mani. She told HollywoodLife.com:
“Lupita’s gown was a clear winner on the red carpet and the “Nairobi Blue” Prada designed for her was a perfect way to usher in Spring. To recreate the look, I painted the negative space in a nude base coat like Butter London’s nail foundation. Using the gorgeous baby blue hue, Dior in Porcelain, I painted a triangle at the tip of the nail in two diagonal strokes inspired by the plunging neckline of her dress. The “V” doesn’t have to be too perfect because you will be outlining it in white. Using a thin paint brush or Q-tip, I painted a thin white line outlining the triangle inspired by her thin waist cinching ribbon. Finally I let the colors semi-dry (3-5 min) before I applied a top coat to seal.”
