What was that, John? The ‘Frozen’ singer Idina Menzel made it to her first Academy Awards on Mar. 2, only to have it spoiled when John introduced her as “Adele Dazeem.”
It was probably such a rush for Idina Menzel, who has had an illustrious career on Broadway, to finally join the ranks of Hollywood and get the chance to perform her breakout hit from Frozen, “Let It Go,” for the Oscars audience and the millions watching at home on Mar. 2. If only they all knew what her name actually was. Thanks, John Travolta!
John Travolta Flubs Idina Menzel’s Name At Oscars
John was in charge of introducing Idina before she performing the Oscar-winning song, and quite frankly, he blew it pretty hard. After making a pretty nice Wicked pun (a play in which Idina starred), the actor then introduced Idina as “Adele Dazeem.”
Otherwise known as “not even close to Idina Menzel.”
Obviously Idina took the flub in stride — she actually didn’t even seem to acknowledge it — and went on to nail her “Let It Go” performance. But man, it was such a huge moment for Idina and her career, so it would’ve been nice if she was properly introduced. We’re sure there were a ton of Idina first-timers who loved her Oscars performance, but then couldn’t find it on iTunes because there’s no such artist as Adele Dazeem.
John Travolta Butchers Idina Menzel’s Name: Adele Dazeem Is Born
John’s massive mistake quickly became an internet sensation. As it usually goes these days, Adele Dazeem immediately got a personal Twitter account:
Thanks for the introduction, John! #oscars
— Adele Dazim (@AdeleDazim) March 3, 2014
And many other veteran Idina-lovers were outraged that their girl didn’t get the proper acknowledgment. But what do you think, HollywoodLifers? Was it just an honest mistake? Watch the video below and let us know!
