After an amazing 16 days, the Sochi Games came to an end on Feb. 23 and Russia celebrated the Olympic success with an incredible closing ceremony. Read on to see all the magical pics!
Russia said goodbye to the XXII Winter Olympics on Feb. 23 with a closing ceremony that was as impressive as the opening ceremony from Feb. 7. And with a surprising sense of humor, the Olympic event was a captivating, beautiful way to end the Sochi Games.
Winter Olympics Closing Ceremony 2014
Just like the opening ceremonies, the thousands of winter olympians filed in to the Russian arena once again to bask in their own glory one last time. And with some serious wow factor, the closing ceremony may have actually outdone the opening event, which was really something to behold.
But the best part might have been when Russia displayed a usually unseen sense of humor. One of the biggest faux pas from the opening ceremony was when one of the five Olympic rings malfunctioned and failed to open. And in a hilarious reference, dancers formed the rings, but one group “malfunctioned” and didn’t open. Hey, that Putin’s a real joker!
The closing ceremony also featured some incredible light shows, more ballerina acts, and some amazing acrobatics. It really was a great way to close the Olympics in Sochi, a place that (unfairly) received plenty of criticism before the games began.
The Winter Olympics were great — full of great hockey, amazing personal stories, and triumphs — and we’re sad to see them end. Aren’t you, HollywoodLifers? Click through all the pictures above and let us know!
