This is such a sad story. Former ‘Bachelor winner’ Shayne Lamas and her husband Nik Richie are currently coping with the loss of their 16-week-old unborn baby. After Shayne suffered from a pregnancy complication, the couple were still able to hold and name their baby before saying goodbye.
Shayne Lamas is still recovering from the pregnancy complication that caused the loss of her 16-week-old unborn baby on Feb. 9 with husband, Nik Richie. However, while Shayne remains in the ICU, Nik was given the opportunity to name and hold his unborn son.
Nik Richie Names Shayne Lamas’ Unborn Baby
Shortly after Shayne, 28, tragically lost their 16-week-old baby during an emergency hysterectomy, Nik Richie, 35, received word from a nurse that the baby was ‘a beautiful’ little boy. Nik later shared with TMZ that he was also asked to hold his son for a few moments during prayer for closure.
Later, a social services worker asked Nik to name his son so that they could properly fill out the necessary paperwork. While Shayne remained in a medically induced coma, Nik chose the name Rex Jagger Lamas-Richie. Nik told TMZ it was the ‘hardest thing’ he’s ever had to do.
Shayne and Nik are the proud parents of their 2-year-old daughter, Press.
How Shayne Lost Their Unborn Baby
It has definitely been a rough few weeks for Shayne and her husband Nik. It all began on Feb. 9 when Shayne was rushed to the hospital after collapsing at home. Doctors found that the former Bachelor winner was bleeding internally around her uterus, and the situation was ‘dire’ considering that she was 16-weeks-pregnant with her second child.
Unfortunately, the baby boy, now named Rex by Nik, was lost during an emergency hysterectomy. Since the surgery, Nik has diligently stayed by Shayne’s side while she remains in the ICU in a medically induced coma.
“Thank you to Dr. Marquez for saving Shayne’s life (again). Thank you to everyone for your thoughts and prayers -– they are working! Thank you to Dakota Pike, Lorenzo Lamas, Shawna Craig, Michele Smith, and my family for giving me the strength to get through this. Lastly, a special thank you to Shayne Lamas for not giving up. Press wants her mom back!” Nik wrote in a letter he shared online.
