After releasing her new profanity-laden song ‘Lookin’ A** N***a,’ with cover art featuring Malcolm X holding a gun, Nicki has released a (somewhat) sincere apology for those she may have offended.

Nicki Minaj, 31, recently experienced a huge amount of backlash over the cover art for her latest single “Lookin’ A** N***a,” which features an image of Malcolm X holding a gun. While she has since apologized, we’re not so sure that she was being sincere! Read on for her apology and tell us if you agree.

Nicki Minaj Apologizes On Instagram For Shocking Malcolm X Cover Art

On her Instagram, Nicki posted the following image:

The 31-year-old rapper may not have been helping her case by apologizing for cover art of Malcolm X holding a gun with a screenshot of her from the video, also holding a gun. She wrote:

What seems to be the issue now? Do you have a problem with me referring to the people Malcolm X was ready to pull his gun out on as ['Lookin' A** N***az']? Well, I apologize. That was never the official artwork nor is this an official single. This is a conversation. Not a single. I am in the video shooting at ['Lookin' A** N***az'] and there happened to be an iconic photo of Malcolm X ready to do the same thing for what he believed in!!!!

Nicki's Cover Art -- Disrespectful?

Nicki Minaj Apologizes To Her Fans And To The Malcolm X Estate — Was She Being Sincere?

She doesn’t actually sound as if she is apologizing! She went on to write that the art  “is in no way to undermine his efforts and legacy. I apologize to the Malcolm X estate if the meaning of the photo was misconstrued. The word ['n***a'] causes so much debate in our community while the  ['n***a'] behavior gets praised and worship. Let’s not. Apologies again to his family. I have nothing but respect an adoration for u. The photo was removed hours ago. Thank you.”

While Nicki did sound more sincere when apologizing to the Malcolm X estate, as she should have, the apology did begin a little backhanded and defensive, implying her audience was too sensitive! Maybe that was just our reading of it.

More importantly, what do YOU think, HollywoodLifers? Was Nicki’s apology from the heart or was it reactionary? Were you offended by the cover art? Be sure to vote and comment below!

I forgot the most important reason to vent she knew it was going to cause controversy using Malcom X on the cover and now she wants to use some lame excuse as to why she really used him.
