A newborn baby disappeared from his parents’ bedroom in the middle of the night as they slept. A day later, 6-day-old Kayden Powell was found alive and well at a gas station in a completely different state.
New parents Brianna Marshall, 18, and Bruce Powell, 23, woke up early on the morning of Feb. 6 to their worst nightmare: Kayden Powell, their then 5-day-old daughter, had completely vanished without a trace from their own bedroom in Beloit, Wisconsin. Twenty-four hours later, Kayden was found alive at a gas station one state over in West Branch, Iowa.
5-Day-Old Kayden Powell Goes Missing
Kayden disappeared from the room his parents were sleeping in during the early hours Feb. 6. The newborn’s mother, Brianna, woke up at 4:30 a.m. to find that her five-day-old baby boy was gone. To make matters worse, police reported there were no signs of a break-in at the home.
That afternoon, police announced that a person of interest, Kristen Smith, had been taken into custody in West Branch, Iowa, after a warrant was issued for her arrest in Texas. Unfortunately, newborn Kayden was not found with her, but there were baby clothes packed inside the vehicle. Kristen, who claims to be Brianna’s half-sister, told police that the clothes were in the car because Brianna and Bruce were planning on moving to Colorado after Kayden was born.
Kayden Found Alive At A Gas Station
On Fen. 7 at approximately 10:15 a.m., a police chief was conducting a thorough search of a gas station in West Branch, Iowa, when he heard what sounded like a baby crying. The police chief then discovered a tote bag containing newborn Kayden, who was swaddled in blankets.
Despite the freezing cold temperature, emergency medical officials have reported that Kayden is in excellent health and will be reunited with her parents as soon as possible.
