‘The Tomorrow People”s Astrid has previously stood in the sidelines as her best friend Stephen took on all the action, but not anymore! Find out what will happen for Astrid when she joins the titular Tomorrow People — and gets involved in a complicated love triangle — below!
Astrid Finch’s life is about to get Ultra-complicated. The Tomorrow People star Madeleine Mantock dished to HollywoodLife.com about her character’s new, complicated relationship with the Tomorrow People, her changing relationship with Stephen (Robbie Amell), and — oh yeah — how everybody is trying to kill her.
‘Tomorrow People’ Star Madeleine Mantock Talks John Versus Stephen
First thing’s first, Tomorrow People fans: You asked, and she answered. When HollywoodLife.com asked TP‘s dedicated fanbase for questions, the results were alarmingly clear — you all wanted to know who Madeleine would choose in a love triangle; Stephen or John (Luke Mitchell). And while Madeleine admitted that she was about to enter a love “square, or a hexagon” with the two boys and Cara (Peyton List), she said that she’d rather see Astrid look out for numero uno — Astrid!
“I’m ‘Team Astrid,'” she said with a laugh. “I don’t have a preference. In the beginning I was very much Team Stephen, because I knew more about him, and my character’s energy was all put into that one person. Now, he’s become more and more distant, and she’s had more interactions with John, and that’s an exciting new prospect. But the history between Astrid and Stephen and Cara and John cannot be ignored, and I don’t know if the interaction that John and Astrid have had at the moment is enough to overcome his history with Cara.”
Disappointed by her answer, “Team John” fans? Well, don’t worry — Madeleine also said that Astrid’s spending more time with the Tomorrow People will directly affect her relationship with Stephen… and not necessarily in a good way.
“There are other relationships that have developed with Stephen that Astrid doesn’t know about,” she teased. “At the moment she’s still on his side and very worried about him, but there has to come a point where she needs to have some self-respect. There’s only so many times that you can be pushed away and rejected, and if these feelings aren’t reciprocated, at some point you need to look elsewhere. So we’re getting to the point now where there will be some conflict to deal with on that subject.”
‘Tomorrow People’ Star Madeleine Mantock Talks Threats From Ultra
It’s a relief to hear Madeleine say that, because given her current state of affairs we were a bit worried that she wouldn’t even make it long enough to sort out her feelings. In the Feb. 5 episode “Things Fall Apart” Astrid will find herself hiding away from the Ultra threat that revealed itself last week.
“They’re trying to kill her,” she explained. “She’s a human and she knows too much, and that’s why they’re keeping her underground — they’re trying to tidy up the mess and figure out how they can possibly find a way to make Ultra forget about her. She’s in a lot of danger, and she has to be worried about her family. She’s essentially in a safe house being underground, but she knows that the other people out there that she cares about are still floating around, and could be gone at any time — that’s why she wants to get out of the lair to save them, but she’s not allowed. It’s not safe. She spends this episode trapped, getting cabin fever in there.”
Hmm… maybe cabin fever could prove to be the perfect impetus to hook up with John? Yes? Um, not so fast.
“She hates [staying with the Tomorrow People], and resents it,” Madeleine said. “She’s annoyed at herself, because she did ask for it. She pestered Stephen to tell her what was going on. Now she’s kind of going, ‘Oh, okay. Thanks very much, but I’m going to go home now.’ Astrid isn’t used to that life, and she doesn’t want to be a part of it.”
What do you think, Tomorrow People fans? Are you excited to see Astrid in the underground lair? Do you see a John hookup in the future? Let us know your thoughts in the comments, and be sure to watch “Things Fall Apart” at 9 p.m. on The CW!
