Drake is working on new music, and apparently he’s ready to share it! In a NYC nightclub on Feb. 3, Drake headed into the DJ booth and premiered a new song, featuring the vocals of Aaliyah.
She may be gone, but she’ll never be forgotten. Aaliyah Haughton passed away in 2001, but the hip hop world isn’t forgetting her beautiful voice — they’re using it in their songs. Drake played a new song while at Griffin nightclub on Feb. 3, titled “Talk Is Cheap,” featuring the singer’s voice.
Drake Uses Aaliyah On New Song
Drake debuted his new music at both Marquee and Griffin nightclub — the first time he’s ever done that at a club — playing “Talk Is Cheap.” It features verses reportedly sung by Aaliyah, with lines like “All white like I move things.”
This isn’t the first time he’s paired up with the late singer, though. In August 2012, we heard his hit “Enough Said,” which features the singer who passed away in a tragic plane crash. Drake has always been a huge fan, as he has a tattoo of her on his back.
While he has featured her before, he was also working with Producer Noah “40” Shebib to create an posthumous Aaliyah album — a project that was called off just a few weeks ago.
“The world reacting to Drake’s involvement so negatively, I just wanted nothing to do with it,” Noah told Vibe in a January interview. “That was a very sad experience for me. I was naïve to the politics surrounding Aaliyah’s legacy and a bit ignorant to Timbaland’s relationship and everybody else involved and how they’d feel. Tim said to me ‘Don’t stop, make the album.’ I think that was Tim taking the position of, ‘I’m not going to stop you. If you’re not going to do it, that’s your decision.’ But ultimately, I wasn’t comfortable and didn’t like the stigma. We released [“Enough Said”], but I was seven songs deep. [Aaliyah’s] mother saying ‘I don’t want this out’ was enough for me. I walked away very quickly. Ultimately, I wasn’t comfortable and didn’t like the stigma.”
