Clay Aiken Is Running For Congress — Watch His Campaign Announcement

Wed, February 5, 2014 2:52pm EDT by Eric Ray 4 Comments

Clay Aiken surprised the world yet again on Feb. 5, when he released an official YouTube video announcing his run for Congress!

Clay Aiken is hanging up the microphone and jumping into the ring with the big boys and girls. Yep, you heard it — the former American Idol contestant is running for Congress!

Clay Aiken Is Running For Congress

Clay, who is wearing a politician-esque uniform of khaki pants and a blue collar shirt, plays the politician role extremely well in the YouTube video, in which he tells viewers that he’s running for Congress in his home state of North Carolina.

“I’m not a politician, I don’t ever want to be one,” the 35-year-old says as he sits in a wooden chair, presumably in North Carolina, talking to viewers as if he’s been in politics all his life. “But I do want to help bring back, at least to my corner of North Carolina, the idea that someone can go to Washington to represent all the people, whether they voted for you or not… and maybe we can play a small part in igniting that change across the rest of our country. This is why I’m running for Congress.”

We hear you as loud and clear as we would if you had sung it to us, Clay!

Clay Aiken’s Opponent Royally Disses Him

Clay will be taking on Rep. Renee Ellmers — the chairwoman of the Republican Women’s Policy Committee — in his bid, and Renee hit Clay below the belt in a recent radio interview. When asked about Clay’s Washington dreams, she dismissed them by saying, “as we know, he doesn’t always fare that well. He was runner-up.”

Ouch! Clay sure does have his work cut out for him, but he’s overcome many obstacles in his life so this particular situation shouldn’t be too tough on the singer.

What do you think of Clay running for Congress, HollywoodLifers? Would you vote for him?
