Just when you thought you’d seen everything in Rosewood, along comes the Feb. 11 episode, which will go where no Pretty Little Liars episode has gone before: black and white! Yes, the ABC Family drama — known for its bright, colorful wardrobe — is doing an entire noir-style episode, and HollywoodLife.com has your exclusive behind-the-scenes look!
‘Pretty Little Liars’ Noir Episode: About Those Costumes…
Costume designer Mandi Line says the script “taught her something” about shooting in black and white: “Color doesn’t matter!” This is a crucial piece of information to have before watching the featurette, so you don’t ask yourself why she’d choose to put the girls in such ridiculous, non-matching outfits.
“You’re giving me green shoes with this purple dress, I have a leopard green trench coat; what are you doing?” Shay Mitchell says in the video, imitating her initial reaction to Mandi’s wardrobe choices for Emily. “When you see us in color … we look a little crazy.”
Stars Shine On ‘Pretty Little Liars’ Noir Episode
Along with new info. about the clothing worn in the episode, this new video also gives us our first look at some truly impressive scenes. The actors do such an incredible job of making the black-and-white vibe feel authentic — especially Keegan Allen and Troian Bellisario, who carry the tone like they literally walked out of an old ’20s mystery movie.
So it’s no surprise that Troian loved her noir episode attire, especially Spencer’s big jacket with the huge fur collar.
