A new report reveals that his girlfriend realized Philip was missing when he didn’t pick up their three children on the morning of his death on Feb. 2. The circumstances only highlight how sudden Philip’s death is, and the fact that all those who knew him said that he was not only a great man, but a great father.
Having recently separated with his long-time partner and mother of his children, Mimi O’Donnell, Philip Seymour Hoffman, 46, was supposed to pick up his children on the morning of his death on Feb. 2. However, when he did not arrive to pick up Cooper, 10, Tallulah, 7, and Willa, 5, from Mimi’s house, the 46-year-old costume designer sent Philip’s close friend, David Bar Katz, to check up on the father-of-three, Mail Online reports.
Philip Seymour Hoffman Was Supposed To Pick Up His Three Children On The Morning Of His Death On Feb. 2
It is so heartbreaking that Philip has left behind three small children due to his battle with addiction, and all those who knew him declared that he was a great father. On CNN New Day on Feb. 3, Christopher John Farley, Senior Editorial Director for the Wall Street Journal told us that just one week prior to Philip’s death, he was seen at his son’s basketball game in Harlem. Christopher said that Philip looked “like Philip Seymour Hoffman — rumpled, in need of a shave” but that he otherwise looked “happy and healthy.” Christopher saw Philip laughing, smiling and joking with his son and remarked that he seemed like “such a great dad.” Indeed, Christopher even texted his wife to that effect, and a week later when Christopher noticed Philip was missing from the game was when he learned that Philip had died. So sad.
“He lived [in his West Village apartment] for a long time and was well-liked,” sources close to the New York Post told the paper. However, the source continued that “everyone knew he has substance abuse problems.” A source at the scene, Olivia De Santis, revealed that “just the other day [she] saw [Philip] getting out of his mini cooper with his kids and his wife.” Philip was clearly a very dedicated father, despite his battle with addiction, and more and more people are coming out to support that fact. He will be sorely missed by his three children.
Philip Seymour Hoffman Was A ‘Truly Great Man As A Father & Partner’
Everyone who knew Philip only had good things to say about him; as soon as news broke that Philip had died, celebrities took to Twitter in droves to mourn the actor.
Philip battled his addiction for much of his life and had stayed clean for 23 years before relapsing and starting to use prescription drugs in 2012 before moving on to heroin.
We can’t imagine how difficult this must be for Philip’s three children and their mother. Our thoughts are with his family as they deal the tragic loss of a great father who succumbed to a terrible addiction.
