Steven usually knows how to get the crowd going but we have to say it was pretty uncomfortable when he belted out one of Motown legend Smokey Robinson’s hit songs while sporting an awkward mustache during the 2014 Grammys on Jan. 26.

We can’t decide which was worse at the 56th Annual Grammy Awards — Steven Tyler‘s weird mustache or his disappointing on-stage rendition of Smokey Robinson‘s hit song “You’ve Really Got A Hold On Me.” What was he thinking?

Steven Tyler At Grammys — His Impromptu Singing & Odd Mustache Stuns Audience

Steven Opens Up About Drug Use

The former Aerosmith frontman debuted his untamed mustache on Jan. 26 when he took the stage to present an award with Smokey. To add insult to injury, Steven began singing Smokey’s song and it didn’t sound good — not in the least.

Steven, 65, seemed to thing he could just belt out a lyric as if he were Jennifer Hudson, but he got it all wrong! In a crackly voice, Steven totally butchered the line “I don’t like you, but I love you,” and it only got worse from there.

Smokey, 73, was caught off guard when Steven began to sing and he just stood there, laughing. It was definitely an awkward moment!

When Steven finally finished, Smokey was still laughing. “Thank you, Steven,” he said. “That was beautiful.” Um, not exactly!

Steven Tyler Reveals Crush On Taylor Swift

Oh well, it was all in good fun and at least Steven seemed to be enjoying himself at the show. We hope he got a chance to hang out with his crush Taylor Swift backstage!

As HollywoodLife.com previously reported, Steven recently revealed that he was crushing on Taylor and thought she was hot!

“She’s blonde with all the hits,” he told Us Weekly. “Taylor Swift. She’s hot. More than that, she’s beyond talented. I have to write a song with her.”

What do YOU think, HollywoodLifers? Do you like Steven’s new ‘stache? Let us know.

He can blurt out anything he likes! Obviously you haven’t heard him sing before, or gone to an Aerosmith concert before! And Steven IS the very best, if you haven’t figured that out yet. He is amazing; he has gone 40+ years of singing with Aerosmith and he still sounds FLAWLESS! Just like Kathy said, he is talented on SOOOO MANY LEVELS! Oh, and how about checking your spelling before posting something.

Sorry Eric, but your article is the only shocking thing here. You don’t seem to get anything, and you need to change careers stat! Copying someone else’s singing style is more than lame and sort of like what you have done here when you just don’t get it about music and then try to write about it. Steven is one of the very best, if not “the” best and most original singers ever, and no one can copy his talent. It was an honor for the amazing Smokey to have Steven deliver his take on it. Steven looked sensational sporting the mustache and carried his style well. He is talented on so many levels which helps make him the icon we only want to see more of today.

I thought it was pretty cool that he sang and the crowd responded. They played right into him, which means he is a rock star! This article is trash.

I’m not a huge fan of Aerosmith, But I thought his rendition of You Really Got A Hold On Me was kinda cool and Smokey Robinson seemed genuinely surprised and happy by the impromptu performance. You guys read into stuff too much sometimes.

You people suck. No matter what this man does you criticize him. If he doesn’t have a mustache he looks like an old woman, with the mustache he looks odd, he can’t sing; that man has more talent and personality in his tiny finger than you pieholes have in your whole body. By the way, jealousy is an ugly thing. The man is almost 66 years old and absolutely gorgeous! So f off!!

I love Steve Tyler and I doubly love his music. I just don’t understand why he would sport a mustache and hair style whose combination is reminiscent of Ghengis Khan?…..is it just moi?…..or does anyone else see it?
