When it comes to music and fashion, Pharrell Williams has been somewhat of a trendsetter because he sticks to his guns and takes risk. Well, he took a massive, Mountie-hat-sized risk with his headwear at the Grammys on Jan. 26, and if his goal was to start a movement and spark a thousand hilarious jokes, then it totally paid off.
Just minutes after Pharrell stepped onto the Grammys red carpet in that enormous, part Mountie, part Smokey the Bear hat (it was so amazing it’s hard to describe), the thing had its own Twitter account:
hey

With @Pharrellhat leading the way, the Daft Punk producer’s headgear became an internet sensation, and the jokes started rolling in. Some said Pharrell stole his Grammys look from the Arby’s logo, and he was compared to Curious George’s handler, Woody from Toy Story, and many other hat-wearing figures in pop culture.
And with all that extra head space, fans began speculating that Pharrell was hiding things underneath the big hat. Some of the top suggestions: his four Grammys, Daft Punk’s robot helmets, and sub sandwiches.
Arby’s also got in on the fun, demanding that Pharrell give them their hat back:
Hey @Pharrell, can we have our hat back? #GRAMMYs

And Pharrell, proving that he has a sense of humor and is all-around the coolest guy on the planet, fired back at the fast food chain after the Grammys were over:
Y’all tryna start a roast beef? 😄😘 “@Arbys: Hey @Pharrell, can we have our hat back? #GRAMMYs”
