Longtime ‘Weekend Update’ anchor Seth Meyers will say his final goodbye on Feb. 1, and on Jan. 23 it was announced that an unknown by the name of Colin Jost would replace him. Rest assured, nervous ‘SNL’ fans — he’s the perfect man for the job.
When Cecily Strong sits down in Saturday Night Live‘s iconic “Weekend Update” desk on March 1, she’ll have a brand new co-anchor by her side. Head writer Colin Jost has been tapped to replace longtime anchor Seth Meyers when he leaves to host Late Night on Feb. 24, and we couldn’t be more excited for the new SNL blood.
Colin Jost Replacing Seth Meyers On ‘Weekend Update’: Why It’s A Good Move
Remember back in 2006, when former head writer Tina Fey left SNL for greener pastures, and was replaced by the then-barely-known head writer Seth Meyers? It was terrifying! Tina and Amy Poehler were the best comedic duo of all time! “Weekend Update” would never be the same!
Big changes in the SNL cast are always innately frightening for some reason, but soon enough we all get used to the new players, and characters like Stefon and Drunk Uncle pop up to make life generally amazing again. We move on, and remember the players of seasons past with a smile — and I’m 100 percent sure that this will happen with Colin.
First, let’s be real, here — you need to have solid comedic timing and good chemistry with your co-stars to work the Update desk, but it isn’t nearly as demanding as being a sketch player. Colin will be sitting there with his jokes written right in front of him, so it’s not like he needs to be the next Kristen Wiig on week one.
But you know what? He might be! SNL has had amazing luck in the past casting head writers as “Weekend Update” anchors — think Tina and Seth — and head writer Colin has been writing some of your favorite SNL jokes since 2005, so it’s not like he’s unfamiliar with the material. In fact, he’s been nominated for seven Emmy Awards, taken home three WGA awards, and in 2009 he won the Peabody Award for his work on SNL. Pretty solid resume, no? Did I also mention that he went to Harvard, where he was president of the famous comedy publication Harvard Lampoon? As Stefon would say, “this guy has everything.”
Colin Jost: A Funny Person
Then there’s the fact that Colin is just a generally funny (and handsome) person. Unlike his predecessor, Colin is actually a stand-up comedian. He’s performed at the famous “Just For Laughs” festivals in Chicago and Montreal, as well as on TBS, HBO, and Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, among others. Then there’s his Twitter account, which essentially proves that Colin has the quick wit and pop culture know-how required to be an Update anchor:
Wait a second. “Rush” gets a Globe nomination and “Turbo” doesn’t? HE’S A SNAIL IT’S MORE IMPRESSIVE

I know this seems backwards, but the crack addicts on the street in Toronto look like 1890s Victorian gentlemen + discuss politics over tea.

Still not convinced? Well, then consider the fact that he’s dating Rashida Freaking Jones — the beautiful tropical fish who is also known as Leslie Knope’s best friend — and watch some of his stand-up below.
What do you think, HollywoodLifers? Will Colin be a solid replacement for Seth?
