The Denver Broncos wide receiver sent out a touching video to the survivors of the Arapahoe High School Dec. 13, 2013 shooting in Centennial, Colo. He revealed he had a similar scary experience when a gunman entered his own high school, and called for the students to ‘stick together’ in this difficult time.
Eric Decker, star of Eric & Jessie: Game On, sent an emotional video to the high school students who survived the Dec. 13 Arapahoe High School shooting in his home state of Colorado, where student Karl Pierson, 18, entered the school with a gun and ended up killing his classmate Claire Davis, 17, and himself. Unfortunately, Eric experienced survived a scary gun situation in his own high school, and gave some words of support and advice to everyone involved.
Eric Decker Sends Arapahoe High School Students Words Of Support After Shooting
Eric sent a poignant video to the survivors of the Arapahoe High School Shooting, encouraging them to stay strong and support each other.
“You never imagine being in that situation,” the football player said in the video. “But through tough times like this, you’ve got to stick together—be it a shoulder to cry on, an ear to listen or a person to be able to hug if there’s ever a grieving moment. And understand that everyone grieves at different paces.”
“Don’t ball your emotions, don’t keep things inside. Talk about it and try to learn from a hard situation like this,” he advised. “Through tragedy, you really test and find out what your character is, who you are and the people around you. I just ask you to stay strong, do better and be good people,” he said in the video.
Eric Decker’s Tragic School Shooting Experience
Eric also revealed that he had his own horrible experience with a gunman entering his high school in 2004.
“We didn’t know what to think.” Eric told Denver Post of the day he and his classmates hid from the gunman in their library for 45 minutes. “Every girl was crying, every guy was trying to stay calm, and when they came and got us, we had to go across the street to the elementary school with our hands up,” he recalled. “You see snipers on the top of the buildings, it’s just surreal. That moment, you’ll never forget. It changes your life in a second.”
The Arapahoe shooting is unfortunately not the last we have heard of school shootings. Purdue University was infiltrated by a gunman on Jan. 21, and one student was killed.
