Moms have swooned over Harry Connick Jr. for years, and now, it’s the rest of America’s turn to fall in love.
Question for the group: Is Harry Connick Jr. not just the best? The gentle-faced crooner made his official debut as an American Idol judge on the Jan. 15 season premiere, and I couldn’t be more thrilled to have him on the panel. He’s exciting, he’s hysterical, and most importantly, he actually knows what he’s talking about!
Harry Connick Jr.: How He’s Bringing ‘American Idol’ Back To Basics
Let’s be honest: American Idol has been on a creative decline in recent years, with more attention being paid to the table of rotating judges — not to mention last season’s feud between Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj — than the actual singers, but I think Season 13 will change all of that.
Harry brings a lightness to the table we haven’t felt in a long time. Besides being funny, he’s incredibly easygoing and likable — is it any wonder he snagged Grace Adler all those years ago? — and he’s able to strike a balance between himself and the contestants. He knows how to command the spotlight when he needs to, but also doesn’t mind shining it on a singer when the time is right.
I used to the think the appeal of American Idol was watching Simon Cowell shred contestants to pieces — the show’s glory days were much darker, to be sure — but seeing Harry joke around with the singers, often as his own expense, is far more enjoyable.
HollywoodLifers, do you love Harry as an Idol judge as much as I do? Cast your vote above, then drop a comment with your take on his position on the panel below.
