So sad! Drake, Missy Elliott and other big stars in the music industry took to Twitter on Jan. 16, Aaliyah’s would-be 35th birthday, to honor the late singer. See what the stars had to say right here.

The world lost promising pop singer Aaliyah when she was tragically killed in a plane crash in the Bahamas on Aug. 25, 2001, but her memory lives on in the hearts of her friends, family and fans. Drake, Missy Elliot and other celebs remembered Aaliyah in heartfelt tweets on Jan. 16.

Drake, who sang with Aaliyah after her death at age 22 on the song “Enough Said,” tweeted, “Happy birthday Aaliyah. Never forget you babe. Aaliyah: Fans Angry About VMAs Snub On 12-Year Anniversary Of Singer’s Death

The 2013 MTV VMAs were held on Aug. 25, the twelve-year anniversary of Aaliyah’s death, and her fans were furious that she was not honored at the show.

Fans took to Twitter to express their outrage over the snub, and they even called out VMAs performer Miley Cyrus for getting so much air time over Aaliyah. Aaliyah won two Moon Men during her career. At the 2000 VMAs, she won the Best Female Video and Best Video from a Film awards for her hit song “Try Again.”
