Taylor Swift — you may be feeling like you got a major slap in the face last night after Golden Globes hosts Tina Fey and Amy Poehler mocked one of your most widely quoted statements in the past year. But don’t get down about it — get the last laugh and laugh!
Taylor Swift — I bet you didn’t go to the Golden Globes thinking that you would be the butt of one of Tina Fey and Amy Poehler‘s pointed jokes during their second stint hosting the awards show. You looked stunning in your strapless black and red Carolina Herrera gown and sported arguably the best and most glamorous hairstyle in the whole darn place. But that didn’t stop Tina and Amy from taking a good-natured dig at your personal thoughts on women supporting other women.
Taylor Swift’s Golden Globes Slam — Don’t Let Tina & Amy’s Diss Get You Down
Just nine months ago, you gave an interview in Vanity Fair‘s April 2013 issue, in which you said, “There’s a special place in hell for women who don’t help other women.” You made that statement in direct reference to Tina and Amy’s shout-out about you at last year’s Golden Globes ceremony, which they also hosted.
Here’s what they said last year:
“You know what, Taylor Swift? You stay away from Michael J. Fox’s son,” Tina joked on stage.
“Or go for it, go for it,” Amy replied. Tina then backtracked and said about you,Taylor, “She needs some ‘me’ time to think about herself.”
The two comediennes were joking about your very active and much-talked about love life. Can you blame them? After all, Taylor, you’re the first to admit that you need to sing about your relationships and feelings. “My experience with songwriting is usually so confessional, it’s so drawn from my own life and my own stories,” you said in a December, 2013 interview with Entertainment Weekly.
So here’s the thing, Taylor — Tina and Amy are funny ladies and they make their living by making jokes. And you have to see that they’re equal opportunity jabbers. So when they took a poke at you last year and you got your back up and talked about women going to hell for not supporting other women, they saw you as fertile ground for a comedy revisit this year.
You have to admit that Tina and Amy, who are strong women who’ve worked with and supported other strong women, are not really the enemy. And while you may not have loved being laughed at during last year’s Golden Globes, you’ve got to remember that you’re a high-profile young woman who regularly incites all kinds of comments, positive and negative. And Tina and Amy, are above all, entertainers.
Taylor Swift — You Should Laugh Along With Tina Fey & Amy Poehler
When they high fived and repeated your quote last night after Amy won for Best Actress in a TV Series, Comedy, they were just putting on a show. Yes, it was in front of your face, yes, they were looking for a reaction from you and the audience, but yes, they took even bigger aim at several men in the movie industry.
Take George Clooney for example. Tina and Amy had the room and the TV audience cracking up when they described the movie Gravity as, “the story of how George Clooney would rather float away into space and die than spend one more minute with a woman his own age.” Then, how about Tina’s introduction for presenter Leonardo DiCaprio: “And now, like a supermodel’s vagina, let’s all give a warm welcome to Leonardo DiCaprio.”
Taylor, you’ve got to admit that both of those jabs were a lot stronger and deeper than the more subtle reference Tina and Amy made about you. And Leo walked right out after his vaginal introduction, blushed a little bit, laughed and carried on with great humor.
Now, you apparently were a little upset about being the butt of Tina and Amy’s joke, a source close to you told HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY. Taylor ” definitely didn’t have it ruin her night, but it certainly affected it for a little bit. She thought it wasn’t very classy.”
I’m totally glad that your beautiful Golden Globes evening wasn’t ruined by Tina and Amy’s diss. Apparently it was only a matter of time before they made a crack about you last night anyway. “It was geared directly towards Taylor. They were thinking of getting back at her at some point during the show and had a few jokes lined up and it just happened to have worked at that moment to do what they did,” another source told HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY.
Nevertheless, this wasn’t done out of a desire to hurt you, according to our source close to Tina and Amy. “Amy and Tina do everything as a joke and if someone like Taylor is going to add to the joke by talking or feeling hurt about it, then that helps their comedy,” the source told us. “They don’t hate Taylor, they just see her as a easy target. The gift that keeps on giving, so to speak.”
If I were you Taylor, I’d have a giant laugh about it with my friends, chalk it up to being super famous and fabulous — which you are — and then the next time you see Tina and Amy, give them a huge high five and a hug and laugh along with them.
Do you agree, HollywoodLifers? Should Taylor laugh off Tina and Amy’s diss, or should she be pissed? Let me know. VOTE.
