She was known as The Amazing Mae Young, and started wrestling at 15!

Mae was born, Johnnie Mae Young, in Sand Spring, Okla., and it was her brothers who taught her how to wrestle.

In 1991 she quit wrestling and moved to California to reportedly spread God’s word as a Christian evangelist. Later that year she quit that and moved in with former female wrestler, The Fabulous Moolah, who died in 2007.

Mae was featured in the film Lipstick & Dynamite and was the first National Wrestling Alliance’s U.S. Women’s champion.

This is so sad, we hope she is surrounded by family and friends.
