How tragic! The former Miss Venezuela’s daughter, 5, was also shot when her parents were murdered by suspected robbers on the highway. While she is recovering from her own wound, her surviving family members have decided not to tell her that her parents didn’t survive the shooting.
Monica Spear, 29, her ex-husband, Thomas Henry Berry, 39, were shot and murdered on Jan. 6, but the story has gotten even more tragic. Their daughter Maya, 5, was also shot in the leg during the brutal suspected robbery, and though she is safely recovering, Monica’s brother, Ricardo revealed that the family has not yet told Maya that her parents were killed.
Miss Venezuela’s Daughter: Monica Spear’s Young Daughter Unaware Of Murder
Monica’s young daughter is safe from harm and being looked after by her grandparents, but she does not know that her parents did not survive the shooting.
“Maya isn’t yet aware that her parents have been murdered,” Monica’s brother Ricardo told NTV24. “It’s a terrible tragedy what has happened to her and as long as we can give her time to recover we will be there for her.”
The little girl’s own injury is still of a concern to the family, and they don’t want to worry her with even more loss. “She’s taken a bullet to her leg and is injured,” he said. “She’s in a private clinic in Caracas and is safe with her grandparents.”
Monica Spear Murdered: Shot On Side Of Venezuela Highway
Monica and Thomas were gunned down in front of their daughter while they were stopped on Puerto-Cabello to Valencia highway, having their car towed after a tire was punctured on the uneven roads.
“It is presumed that the motive was robbery,” Venezuelan Justice Minister Miguel Rodriguez Torres said, reported CNN. “We are still investigating. There are five people detained who are being interrogated.”
Our thoughts are with Maya and the victims’ families at this difficult time.
