After the show’s Jan. 5 episode, fans can rest easy: Sarah won’t be Yoko-ing Sherlock and Watson, after all!
No one wants to be the “other” woman — especially when it means coming between fan-favorite best friends like Sherlock (Benedict Cumberbatch) and Watson (Martin Freeman) — so I was thrilled by the Jan. 5 episode of Sherlock, which proved that Mary (Amanda Abbington) is no threat to the show’s central relationship.
In fact, Mary went out of her way to support the bromance, cleverly convincing Sherlock and Watson to go on a case, instead of staying behind to fold napkins into tiny Sydney Opera Houses. (Not that I didn’t enjoy that attention to detail.)
And sleuth they did, eventually having to solve one giant mystery after two separate cases unexpectedly merged together.
Sherlock’s Best Man Speech — Is That Real Emotion We Sense?
Of course, Mary doesn’t deserve all the credit for keeping Sherlock and Watson’s friendship going strong. Sherlock’s best man speech was surprisingly heartwarming, especially considering he’s been directly referred to as a “high-functioning sociopath.”
And who didn’t love when Sherlock put the fear of God into Mary’s ex, telling him he’s never to see her without Watson present?
In the end, we can all breathe a sigh of relief. I wasn’t too worried about Mary splitting up Holmes and Watson, but it’s still nice to know she’s completely on our side. (Now if only Sherlock could find himself a lovely lady to settle down with!)
