When we last left Rick and Carl Grimes during the midseason finale of ‘The Walking Dead,’ the father-son duo was in shambles — homeless and without baby Judith, the odds were definitely not in their favor. The official poster for the series’ Feb. 9 return has been released, and it looks like conditions have really improved overall. Just kidding! Everything is horrible.
The Walking Dead has never been the most NOT bleak show on television, and now a brand new poster for the show’s Feb. 9 return has us worried that Carl (Chandler Riggs) and Rick’s (Andrew Lincoln) lives are about to get even worse.
‘The Walking Dead’ Releases New Season 4 Poster
When viewing the Season 4 (part deux) Cormac McCarthy‘s The Road-esque teaser poster, two things come to mind — first and foremost, that things are about to go from ridiculously unfathomably bad to … somehow even worse. Gone is the sense of hope and unity that the group found in the prison, as everyone split up when The Governor and those Walkers ruined their idyllic paradise (or as close to an idyllic paradise as you can find in the Walking Dead universe). Now Rick and Carl are out on their own, and they at least think that Baby Judith is dead. Whether or not that’s true is yet to be determined, but still — the damage has been done. “Don’t Look Back,” the poster says, suggesting the end of the era of the Grimes Gang.
The second thing that comes to mind is the fact that Carl is the one whose increasingly mature, rugged frame is placed front and center, instead of the series’ star Rick. This definitely heavily suggests a changing of the guard with Carl as the show’s conflicted moral center — a process that arguably started at the end of Season 3 — with the emotionally battered Rick just struggling to hold on.
Chandler has been phenomenal this season, and Carl — along with Carol (Melissa McBride), Daryl (Norman Reedus) and Tyreese (Chad Coleman) — is pretty much the only member of the Grimes Gang willing to make difficult, interesting decisions, so I’m personally all for this changing of the guard. The age of Carl is nigh!
What do you think of the poster, HollywoodLifers?
