Michael Schumacher Ski Accident

Heartbreaking news — Formula One driver Michael Schumacher is in critical condition after he hit his head while skiing with his son on Dec. 29.

Seven-time racing champion and Formula One icon Michael Schumacher, 44, is fighting for his life following a horrific Dec. 29 skiing accident in the French Alps. The German driver is undergoing brain surgery for a head collision that has led to a medically induced coma.

Formula One’s Michael Schumacher Fighting For His Life

CBS News reports that Michael was skiing with his son in the French Alpine resort Meribel when he fell and hit his head on a rock. He was wearing a helmet, but doctors said it was not enough to prevent a serious brain injury.

“We cannot predict the future for Michael Schumacher,” Grenoble University Hospital Center Chief anesthesiologist Jean-Francois Payen told reporters. “He is in a critical state in terms of cerebral resuscitation… We can say that his condition is life-threatening, [but] for the moment, we cannot say what Michael Schumacher’s future is.”

Michael was brought to the hospital on Dec. 29, put in a medically induced coma, and had brain surgery. His wife and family members remain by his side as he fights for his life.

Michael Schumacher: Most Successful Driver In History

Hopefully Michael’s history of overcoming impossible obstacles will help him beat this horrific injury. Michael, the most successful Formula One driver of all time, also broke his leg in a crash at the Silverstone race course in 1999, and suffered serious neck and spine injuries after a motorcycle accident in 2009.

HollywoodLife.com‘s thoughts are with Michael and his family during this difficult time.
