Anyone that has to make grandiose claims about how the rest of the universe feels is clearly on very shaky ground. For those who missed it, the Doctor’s goodbye to Clara earlier, as he goes to face the Daleks, keeping her safe for his final victory, is far more poignant than Amy’s ‘for the fans’ moment. I hope like anyone else that Clara escapes the shackles of being a plot device and comes into her own in Series 8 but I still prefer her to Amy. And River. And actually every female companion in the new series apart from Donna.

Methinks you will be comparing 11/Amy vs 12/Cara and will continue championing Amy. Let someone else with an open mind, and has a sense of neutrality review Series 8 instead. Just be a fan if you can’t be objective,

First off The Doctor didn’t dump Clara. He tricked her to save her not once but twice. Sure it looks “cruel,” but after losing The Ponds and Clara’s 2 echoes he did not want to make the same mistake with her. Remember that message to Miss Kizlet in Bells of St John? “Under my protection.” Clara is more than a just okay friend. If she was, he wouldn’t have bothered with her after her mystery was solved. Clara was more than that so I would have to disagree with you. Also Clara and Amy are different characters hence different chemistry with Smith’s Doctor. My trouble with Clara is how she was written with the Impossible Girl arc which focused on her mystery. Now that solved perhaps we will get more development for her. For the record I like both characters but I prefer Clara over Amy on a personal level. Matt is a fantastic Doctor and I will miss him so lets see what Peter Capaldi can do.

HA HA “Matt Smith was one of the best Doctors of all time” really? TOM baker ring a bell. i wonder if this writer even watched this from the start. Matt Smith took four epidsodes before he nailed it. David was an instant success and by far out ran Matt in acting. Matt is young and he made it work and i like him better now then when he started. he is funny, and thats the doctor we know. so best doctor of all time your opinion not the fans i know. everyone keeps saying TOM, DAVID then Matt sooo we love him now and still.

PS, the grown Amy moment felt forced. A vision of young Amy running was all the call back i needed.

I wouldn’t call Matt Smith “one of the best,” but he grew on me over time. Quite honestly I found this special to be rather pointless and it took too long to finally get to the Doctor cheating death. The regeneration also felt like a cheat; as if they blew the F/X budget and had to cut it short. It was nice to have that little Pond moment. It would have been nice if River Song could have made an appearance, as well.

It ‘s funny, but i have rewatched the entire reboot over the last several weeks and changed my mind about a few things. Full disclosure, i originally came to Doctor Who during the middle of the Tenth’s Doctor’s first season, then went back to the Ninth. In rewatching from the start i wished there was another season of the Ninth, I liked Rose Tyler much more this time round, wished there was a bit more of Mickey, still love the Tenth, tired more of some of the more far fetched episodes in the Tenth’s and Eleventh’s seasons – I know, “far-fetched” is an odd complaint, but seriously re-botting the Universe – but here are most surprising things, i liked Clara much more, River Song less and frankly got quite tired of Amy and Rory. I wish they had end their stay earlier, though more happily and without the tired Angels as villian. I also wished that the “impossible girl” arc had been better written or eliminated competely. There is a good base character in Clara and Jenna is quite engaging. Anyhow, i hope Clara gets several good episodes, on par with the best Rose and Amy ones.

My favorite companion is Martha Jones followed by Captain Jack, Rose, Donna Clara and Amy.

I thought Stephen Moffat was finally leaving the Dr. Who franchise this year. God I miss Russell T. Davis and Mark Gatiss as well. They wrote better overall seasons of Doctor Who than Stephen Moffat does Sure Moffat is the one you want when a terrifying episode is required, but anything else, not so much and for the most part Moffat has been terrible as Show Runner; and he’s been writing the type of canon no one wants, he’s changing everything for the worse. I don’t like his choice of the new Doctor either. When will Stephen Moffat’s reign finally be over?

Capaldi looks old. I’m not really looking forward to his turn in the Tardis. Of course I hated when 10 showed up, and thought 11 too young. I guess we’ll see.

The Master Returns to battle Capaldi’s Doctor in 2014?

There’s a youtube clip going around, that’s had over 14,000 views so far, of the apparent next ‘regeneration’ of The Master who will be facing off against Capaldi in the forthcoming eighth series.

Tweeter ‘@jamesstoker1963′ tweeted the youtube audition clip with these details:

“I got this apparent audition clip from a youtube user account IzzyAlive (which now seems to have been deleted) who claimed:

“A friend of mine in an actors co-operative agency got sent this clip with 4 others in an email that they’d been ‘CC’D into when casting another show I can’t mention.
The other 3 clips were relevant to the show they were casting but this one was marked:

‘The Master DW2014′ (Moff select final review clip).

I don’t know who the actor is but maybe they’re going with an ‘unknown’ to play The Master after casting a ‘known’ actor in Peter Capaldi to play the 12th Doctor?
I guess we’ll find out soon enough”

You can see the clip at: youtu.be/x4F4GpGTaQM

Here’s to 2014 and the beginning of the Capaldi era of Doctor Who!

“What was cool, however, was finding out that Mother Superious had sent the Silence through the Doctor’s timeline to prevent him from saying his name, and sent River out to kill him — all to stop something that the damn crack in the wall (and Clara) would accomplish anyway!”

No, that was Madame Kovarian and her breakaway sect.

I noticed a resemblance to the house from Rose’s. I also noticed the family dinner was also similar. But I was most upset how Peter asked “Do you know how to fly this thing?” HOW COULD HE NOT KNOW? I MEAN, HE’S THE DOCTOR! OMG! Anyway, let’s hope he’s as good as Tennant and Smith.

It was like watching the last lift off of the shuttle, and knowing that it will be a long time before we see something that great again. It has been a treat to have Tennant and Smith back to back. My two boys got to see why Doctor who is so special to the SciFi universe. Thanks for all the laughter and magic Matt Smith.

…umm. I don’t know which dark corner of the whovian community you roll in, but everyone I know loves Jenna Coleman and Smiths on screen chemistry. Then again, if I go off what some people online say, the show is great. Except Rose is terrible, Martha was worse, Donna was old,Amy was annoying, and Clara is the worst one ever. Can’t please everyone I guess.

No dark corner. Love Rose, Donna, Amy, Matt… and the show. Just a different opinion than you do on Clara. I blame writing more than anything else; nothing personal on Jenna.

Exactly. Jenna’s fine. The writers just need to do more with her than let her be an 80′s companion: “What do we do now, Doctor?” “Take the sonic screwdriver back to the TARDIS, Doctor? Sure!”

Amy was a cheap rip off of Donna Noble without the chemistry that Tennant and Tate had. Love Clara Oswald and Jenna Coleman.

Are we watching the same show as everyone else? Clara Oswald is awesome and spunky, and Jenna Coleman is… eh, let’s do a poll along gender lines and see how it turns out. I suspect she’s rather more popular with the lads.

A lot of of us love Jenna Coleman as much as we love Karen Gillan, so clearly you are clueless about the Whoniverse.

I agree. I didn’t like Amy much. She just annoyed me more than anything, I don’t think she gave Matt Smith enough room to breathe and establish himself as the Doctor. She seemed like she was constantly trying to push to be the centre of attention… at least, that’s my take on it. Clara is much gentler, kinder, more understanding, less presumptuous than Amy was. Going to miss Clara & Smith together.

I adored Amy. Once she came along she replaced Rose as my favorite companion. I *LIKED* how pushy, loud, and independent she was. And I never found her annoying.
