So tragic! A young boy was killed after the snow forts he was building outside of his Greece, New York apartment caved in on top of him.
Cory Denoncourt, 10, died on Dec. 19 after becoming trapped underneath piles of snow that he was playing in on Dec. 18. The young New Yorker was building snow forts in a huge snow bank and fell into a deep hole before the snow collapsed around him. The children he was playing with were not able to free him in time.
Snow Fort Collapse Kills Boy, 10, While Playing In New York Neighborhood
Neighborhood kids playing with Cory tried desperately to rescue him from the collapsed fort, but found that he wasn’t breathing when they pulled him out, reported The Daily Mail.
“I saw him face first in the snow with his whole body covered with snow,” teenage neighbor Nick Sanchez told WHAM, after being one of the first to arrive on the scene. “He wasn’t moving. His lips were purple. I tried to open his eyes but his eyes were just still. His stomach wasn’t moving or nothing.”
One child frantically ran to his mother to have her call 911 as other neighbors stayed with the boy.
Police Warn Parents About Dangers Of Kids Playing In Snow
The boy was taken to the hospital on Dec. 18 and was in critical condition, but unfortunately passed away from his injuries on Dec. 19.
Authorities are warning parents to take careful note about the dangers of playing in mass amounts of snow, and say crisis management teams will be available at Cory’s school to help classmates cope with the loss.
Our thoughts are with Cory’s family at this difficult time.
