It’s a huge week for Lea! She released her first single off of ‘Louder’ on Dec. 10, and on Dec. 12 she went on ‘Ellen’ to do her first live performance of the hit song, ‘Cannonball.’

We’ve heard Lea Michele‘s extremely strong voice on Glee over the years, but for the first time ever, we got to see her perform her own song live on Ellen! Watch the amazing video below.

Lea Michele Performs ‘Cannonball’ For First Time

Lea, 27, performed “Cannonball” after a serious sit down interview with Ellen DeGeneres. Trading in her red jacket for a sleek black dress, Lea looked and sounded beautiful.

We haven’t heard Lea sing like this live ever, since we’ve been used to seeing her as Rachel Berry. Her album, Louder is set to come out in March, and we can’t wait — it’s full of emotion.

Before she took the stage, she opened up about how she was coping with the death of her boyfriend, Cory Monteith.

She referred to him as “the greatest man,” and was clearly beaming while remembering him. It was her first TV interview since his death so it was fitting that she would perform a song that’s helped her get through it all.

Lea Michele: ‘Cannonball’ Has ‘Been My Strength’

“The minute I heard the song, I had a physical reaction to it,” Lea told MTV in an interview. “For me, it’s been my strength. I listen to it every day. I know it was brought into my life for a reason. It’s really been so helpful for me and I hope it’s the same for other people as it’s been for me.”

The song was written by Sia, and it immediately grabbed her attention.

“I think the great thing is that it’s such a universal song; it certainly helped me with my loss that I’m dealing with,” she said. “And I think it will translate and help people with whatever they need it for. I hope it gives them the strength that it’s given me.”

Cory had heard the full album, which was done in July, but after his death she didn’t want to release it right away so she sat down with Sia to see if there was anything else she wanted to add. She ended up writing an emotional song, “If You Say So” and recording “Cannonball.”

“I just felt that ‘Cannonball’ was the perfect first song for people to hear from this record,” she told MTV. “It just really explains where I am right now and it’s been such an inspirational song for me. It’s been such a rock, such a source of strength for me.”

It definitely is a beautiful song. What did you think of the performance, HollywoodLifers? Let us know!

Side Note: For those into fashion, Lea Michele wore a FROCK Los Angeles dress during her appearance.
