It’s a sing-off! This holiday season, ‘The Sound of Music’ fans have two versions of ‘My Favorite Things’ to choose from — and both come from former ‘American Idol’ winners! Kelly Clarkson performed the song during her Dec. 11 ‘Cautionary Christmas Music Tale’ mere days after Carrie Underwood belted it out when she played Maria in NBC’s ‘Sound Of Music’ live special. So, who sang it better? Check out both versions below, and let us know what YOU think!
Someone call Simon Cowell, because only the former American Idol judge who helped launch both Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood‘s careers can really choose who sang “My Favorite Things” better. Carrie took on the iconic song for NBC’s live televised broadcast of The Sound of Music, then Kelly performed it days later during her NBC special, Cautionary Christmas Music Tale. It’s a tough call!
Carrie Vs. Kelly: Who Sang It Better?
Carrie’s voice is undoubtedly beautiful, but much of the talk surrounding her Sound of Music performance revolved around her wooden acting performance. However, this is a singing competition, so let’s forget all about that and just stick to the basics — and when you take away the deer-in-headlights look and silly nun costume, she did an amazing job.
Kelly, of course, also knocked it out of the park — we’d expect nothing less from American Idol‘s very pregnant first champion, who sang beautifully throughout her entire special. We’re tempted to give Kelly the win, but she also didn’t have to deal with the stigma of having to step into Julie Andrews‘ very famous clogs. Maria is an extremely difficult role to pull off — especially during a live television broadcast — and Carrie handled her backlash with a level of grace and class that showed some real maturity from the country star.
