After a 15-year-old boy named Davion Only begged 300 churchgoers to help him find a family to adopt him, he’s getting ready to spend Christmas with a prospective new family! Davion’s story is so heartbreaking — but it looks like he might finally get the happy ending he deserves!
Davion Only, 15, has been in and out of foster homes his entire life — and all he’s ever wanted is a stable, loving family to call his own. Now, after the inspiring teen reached out to parishioners in his Florida church in hopes of finding a permanent home, it looks like Davion’s Christmas wish is coming true! The teen is currently living with two loving prospective parents, whom he will spend the holidays with as they continue to get to know each other.
Davion Only Adoption Plea Granted? — Orphan, 15, Gets Christmas Wish
Davion’s foster parents are planning to take him away for his first-ever real Christmas, his biological aunt Doris Barnes tells the UK’s Daily Mail.
“I know he is going out of town with a family for Christmas,” Doris says. “I wanted to buy him a present and maybe see him, but I can’t because he’s not going to be around. I just want him to be happy and loved and to be with someone who is going to do the best for his future.”
After Davion bravely shared his story in October, hundreds of families called his case worker to talk about the possibility of adopting the teen — so we know he must have been placed with a very special family. Now he’s taking the time to get to know his potential new parents before the adoption is finalized.
“Davion has moved from his group home placement at Carlton Manor to a foster home where he is enjoying getting to know the family,” a spokesperson for the Florida adoption agency handling Davion’s case told the Daily News. “Davion is excited to be spending the holidays with a perspective adoptive family.”
We are so thrilled for Davion, and we wish him many merry Christmases to come!
Davion Only’s Story
Davion was born while his mother was in jail serving time for petty theft and drugs. His mother died in prison in 2012, reported Naples News.
“When I found out all that stuff about my family, it made me want to be more successful, no matter what,” Davion said to ABC News. “I don’t want to go down that same path.”
Davion showed great courage when he stood up in front of hundreds of strangers to share his story. “My name is Davion and I’ve been in foster care since I was born,” Davion told parishioners at the church. “I know God hasn’t given up on me. So I’m not giving up either.”
“I’ll take anyone,” Davion said. “Old or young, dad or mom, black, white, purple. I don’t care. And I would be really appreciative. The best I could be.”
“If you can, reach out and get me and love me until I die,” Davion told ABC News.
