The millions of Americans who have gotten used to hearing their morning weather report from Sam Champion will have to adjust to Ginger Zee, who will be replacing Sam as the lead weather anchor on GMA. Ginger is the weekend weather anchor on GMA — and even though her new co-hosts adore her, they will dearly miss Sam, saying he encompasses “all that is good” in the world.
Ginger Zee Replaces Sam Champion On ‘GMA’ With A Tearful Sendoff
During Sam’s last day on GMA, news anchor Josh Elliott got choked up when he wished his co-host the best of luck.
“I just want to say thank you, because it’s been a gift each and every day to work with you, Sam. A lot of people talk about our bromance. For me, it was just a friendship,” Josh tearfully said. “I promise there’s happy on the inside, but the tears… Aw, I’m going to miss you. I love you Sam.” Aww!
“You encompass all that is good and right in this world, and you show it each and every day when you show up here,” said Robin.
Sam Champion Leaving ‘GMA’ For A ‘Once In A Lifetime Opportunity’
Sam has been a beloved weatherman at ABC since 1988, so news of his departure has sent shockwaves through the GMA community. ABC News President Ben Sherwood sent out an official release on Dec. 2, saying:
“Our friend and colleague Sam Champion is leaving ABC News for a new opportunity at the Weather Channel. He will become the on-air face of the network, appearing as a host and serving as managing editor. Sam calls it a once in a lifetime opportunity.”
