1. Tom isn’t just a diver — he’s also a TV celebrity! He was an adviser to celebrity contestants on the diving show, Splash!, that aired in January 2013.
2. He represented the U.K. in the the 2008 Summer Olympics as Britain’s youngest competitor. So impressive!
3. Tom is a star student, as well as a star diver! He attended Plymouth College in the U.K., and received A’s in photography, Spanish and math.
4. Sadly, Tom’s father died from a brain tumor in 2011 at the age of 40 after battling cancer. However, Tom lives near his mom, Debbie, and his two brothers.

Though this is the first time most of the world is learning about Tom’s sexuality, there is one person he made sure to tell before the big announcement: his mother, Debbie. He says she’s been “so supportive,” even if the rest of his family members have “mixed opinions” on the subject.
Tom also believes his late father Robert, who died from cancer in 2011, would also be OK with his announcement.“People will think, ‘What would your dad say?’” Tom says in the video. “He always said to me, ‘As long as you’re happy, I’m happy.’ And right now, I couldn’t be happier.”
