The pride and joy of Team Christina, Matthew Schuler recently put his own unique spin on a little song you might have heard of, One Direction‘s “Story Of My Life.” The Pennsylvania native tackled 1D’s signature ditty Dec. 2 on The Voice, and even though he powered through with flying colors, he admitted to HollywoodLife.com that he was fearful of Directioners’ wrath.
Here’s what he told us when we caught up with him after the live show:
When Christina throws me a challenge, I like to meet her on it. I was excited to do it! But everything in my head was that One Direction has the biggest fan base in the world, and I didn’t want the Directioners to come and kill me! Hopefully I did it justice, and they enjoyed the performance as well, but I was definitely feeling it and I knew I had to do it well! I respect them, as they started on The X Factor, a show just like The Voice.
Yes, Matthew really compared The Voice to The X Factor. (I hope Christina Aguilera isn’t reading this!)
Matthew Schuler: How He Plans To Win ‘The Voice’
Matthew might have won this week’s battle, but there are still two weeks left in The Voice war, and he told us how he plans to see it through to the end.
“There is a lot of pressure [with] everything we hear from outside sources and blogs, [but] I want to stay in my own bubble and focus on my songs,” Matthew told us. “I want to take more time believing in my songs; I think that will make things happen for me!”
Hey, given his success thus far, we wouldn’t be surprised to see Matthew in the finals at all!
