I agree with what she’s saying about rap music being irrelevant, but she can’ just go around on the internet dissing celebs because SHE doesn’t like it. Although it’s her opinion, what Is the point in announcing it to the world? it isn’t like people are going to be like; ohhhhh lorde doesn’t like it and she’s right.. It’s music. Lorde can sing about what she wants, let other artists sing about what they want to sing

Lorde’s whole song “Royals” is a tip to artists (rappers most guilty) who sing about “such opulence, stuff that just didn’t relate to me, or anyone that I knew”. So ummm yeah, who cares? ANd who is Nicki Minaj these days anyway? She faded away pretty quickly thankfully.

Funny how Lorde ignored Nicki’s songs about growing up poor in Trinidad and the ghettos of Queens, NY. That ugly old looking chick just wanted to diss black people in a slick way.

I don’t think Lorde was saying that Nicki Minaj and Drake and such were irrelevant in the music business, she was saying that they are relevant and that’s a bad thing because no one can relate to their lyrics. Their lyrics are irrelevant to normal people’s lives. Please don’t twist people’s words around to suit you.

Nicki and Lil Wayne are from the ghetto and also have songs rapping about their past poverty. Obviously she’s a white girl from Australia and could never relate to those songs as well.

She is a ‘white girl’ from New Zealand, not Australia. If you are going to throw around racial slurs then at least get your facts right. You disgruntled ignoramus.

okay don’t get me wrong I don’t like haters… but what lorde is saying is freaking messed up.. i would honestly like her to read this, so if anyone can make that happen please do………………..

Dear Lorde, I don’t think spreading your opinion is wrong i think that what you are saying particularly is not the best way to go.. honestly they have been in the music industry longer than you have so look at the people you are dissing and then look at your self.. what makes you any different then what you’re putting them out to be. look at them as someone to ask when troubles in your music is happening, honestly your only a one hit wonder,.. don’t get me wrong i love your music not your irrelevant attitude

She only stated her opinion. Is she not allowed to say that now? I think a lot of people here on the internet agree but they’re not just about getting lynched for doing so. She didn’t even say it in a mean way, she just feels that music isn’t relevant to her own life.

She’s trying to change the way people see music…and it’s working! Ever since Royals, music has gotten better and more relevant in my opinion. She’s using her influence (even if she only has a little) for the greater good of society.

I don’t like her. She needs to learn her place and not worry about things that really don’t concern her.

I’d like to point out that if everyone just learned their place, women wouldn’t be allowed to vote and blacks would still be slaves. She sees something wrong and she’s trying to use her influence to change it.

And what exactly is she trying to change? Just because rap isn’t relevant to her, doesn’t make it wrong. She doesn’t have to change anything there. All she really needs to do is focus on herself and her fans. There will always be at least one person Nicki and Drake are relevant to. So their lyrics aren’t relevant to her, then she doesn’t have to ever listen to them again. Simple as that.

Give her a break! She is 16 years old and has been thrust into the spotlight so suddenly, she does not know how to deal with the media just yet.
Celebrities are taught how to say things so they can not be interpreted in different ways and cause controversy, Lorde has not had that lesson yet and nor should she!
She is bright enough to realise she could make a lasting career out of this fame and any feuds could have a damaging impact to her future. These magazines and interviewers are taking advantage of her young age and her lack of experience in order to stir the pot and cause controversy. Poor girl!

Lorde Tweets

nice try @ComplexMag, but i have nothing but love and admiration for both nicki and drake (have said this x1000)

Just because their songs aren’t my reality (being 17 and from auckland) doesn’t mean i don’t admire their musicianship and careers!

She is an arrogant little teenager who wants to be a big star. Does she really need to diss everyone who is more popular than she is ? Her song royal is crap in my eyes (or better in my ears) and she is not a beauty, she looks very old for 16. The only thing i like is her hairs.

She wasn’t even dissing. Look at her words, not what the column said to condemn them. This column completely twisted her words around to make her look bad.

Oh dear. You’re judging lorde on her looks? Whether one likes her music or not, she is…finally…a smart, talented, strong, determined, successful young woman who doesn’t spread her legs to create controversy or garner attention. I am relieved to see a popstar I wouldn’t mind my future daughter emulating or looking up to. When will us females judge each other by our heads instead of our faces? So she said a few things that may have been ill-advised, although, more likely, taken out of context, but at least it’s her words she’s being judged for, not her arse. How refreshing!

I know she’s only 16, and becoming so popular all of a sudden must have been a big ego trip, but didn’t she ever learn how to be polite? Even if she does think Drake and Nicki Minaj don’t speak to her life, that doesn’t negate that millions of other people DO relate to their songs and success stories. And the stuff she said about Selena is laughable. Feminism isn’t about lauding any specific kind of female, it’s about celebrating that ALL females in their various forms are just as worthy of respect as their male counterparts. Doesn’t matter if they are telling a guy to come and get it or going to get the guy themselves or not even talking about guys because who needs them. :P

First of all, millions of people do NOT drive Cadillacs, nor do they roll in money, drink all day and night with no consequence, have sex with everyone they see, or hang out in clubs every day. Only the top 1% if that.

Second of all, it is feminism to want to be seen for more than just a sex object for men to play with.
