Now THAT’S how you start an awards show! Katy kicked off the 2013 American Music Awards with a bang on Nov. 24, transporting us to the Ancient Orient with a stunning performance of “Unconditionally.”
Katy Perry is arguably the biggest star on the planet right now, and at the AMAs on Nov. 24 she made sure everyone knew it. Singing “Unconditionally” to start the show, Katy’s performance was sexy, transcendent, and emotional.
Katy Perry Stuns With “Unconditionally”
For the vibrant, sweeping ballad, Katy dressed as a gorgeous geisha in a sexy kimono and a dramatic Oriental beauty look and hairstyle. While rocking a beautiful, custom-made microphone decorated with flowers, the singer pranced around the Japanese garden stage while backup dancers added decorative flare.
It was really a ton of sensory overload with flower petals raining from above, strobe lights pulsing, and an army of geisha background dancers.
The performance matched the song’s high emotion and really transported us to another place. Katy’s raised her game to another level — she’s now both mature and in touch with her feelings, and she’s never been better.
Katy Perry’s Killer Song
“Unconditionally” is quickly becoming Katy’s most epic performance song. She also took our breath away singing the Prism song at the MTV European Music Awards on Nov. 10.
For that performance, Katy strapped into a harness to become a “human maypole,” soaring over the audience while singing the intense song. It was an amazing sight, though we sort of feel like she outdid herself this time with her AMA-opening rendition.
What do you think, HollywoodLifers? Did you love Katy’s performance? Were you a little confused by the geisha theme? Let us know!
