Happy birthday Miley! The singer turned 21 on Nov. 23, so what better way to celebrate the big day than to take over MTV, the network where she’s made a home, with a countdown of her top moments!?
MTV used to have My Super Sweet Sixteen, but apparently now they’re just handing over the keys to the network for stars’ big birthdays. Or maybe they just made an exception for Miley Cyrus, who took over the network on her 21st birthday on Nov. 23.

The fiesta began with Miley, in a black leather bodysuit, introducing 21 Candles: Miley’s MTV Moments. The show counted down the 21 top reasons why we are all Smilers deep down, including all of her momentous milestones. The countdown started with Miley’s first appearance on TRL, all the way back in 2006. “I grew up watching TRL,” Miley said, explaining the importance of the moment.
And of course the countdown wouldn’t be complete without a full breakdown of Miley’s raunchy performance at the 2013 MTV VMAs! We’ve had a few months to recover from that twerk-fest, but it’s still exciting to relive it all over again with Miley herself.
The show also featured amazing compliments and birthday wishes from other stars like Rihanna, Ariana Grande, and Austin Mahone.
Miley Cyrus’ MTV Takeover
If you missed 21 Candles at noon ET, do not fear — Miley will be in charge of MTV all day, re-airing Miley: The Movement Deluxe Edition and also putting on her favorite MTV shows, Awkward and Snooki and JWOWW.
And if you’re a big Smiler, you can get in on the birthday fun too! If you want, tweet “#HappyBirthdayMiley” or post a cute Instagram pic and your message could be included during Miley’s takeover!
We’re sure Miley has an insane birthday party planned for later tonight, but we’re at least happy to get some time to celebrate with the singer too.
